About the Role

SKILL is partnering with a leading organization at the forefront of innovation in the energy sector, dedicated to integrating cutting-edge solutions and sustainable practices to power communities and build the infrastructure of tomorrow. This is an incredible opportunity to join a forward-thinking team where your expertise will directly contribute to groundbreaking initiatives, shaping the future of energy delivery and critical infrastructure development across diverse operational areas. Your work will directly influence the adoption of renewable energy and the resilience of essential systems, making a tangible impact on how communities are powered for generations to come.

Working within the Central Engineering organization, you will support groundbreaking infrastructure initiatives at the leading edge of clean energy integration-developing cost estimates for major projects that connect renewable energy generation (including Offshore Wind, Large-Scale Battery Storage [BESS], and Hydroelectric power) directly into the power grid.

Because many of these specialized projects are in early stages without fully detailed drawings, you will play a key collaborative role with the engineering team: assessing preliminary scopes, making informed estimating assumptions, evaluating site logistics, and visiting field sites to ensure accurate financial groundwork.

What You'll Do

  • Develop complex, multidisciplinary conceptual, authorization, and appropriation cost estimates for major infrastructure, utility, and renewable energy integration projects.
  • Build estimates from preliminary work scopes, rough sketches, and 30% design drawings by making sound technical and pricing assumptions.
  • Evaluate practical site logistics and construction challenges, including site access, foundations, retaining platforms, crane/rigging setups, and large equipment transport/installation.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to evaluate alternative designs and contribute to optimal design selection.
  • Conduct field visits as needed to assess site conditions and refine scope accuracy.
  • Manage multiple high-priority assignments simultaneously while adhering to strict project timelines.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required (Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred).
  • Hands-on Estimating Expertise: Demonstrated track record of developing cost estimates for large-scale, complex construction projects from preliminary or incomplete design data.
  • Construction Means & Methods: In-depth knowledge of heavy construction practices, cost drivers, site development, and equipment transport/rigging logistics.
  • Multidisciplinary Understanding: Strong civil estimating background with solid electrical and/or mechanical comprehension (or vice versa).
  • Technical & Analytical Proficiency: Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and industry-standard estimating applications/databases.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface directly with engineers and project managers to clarify scope.

What Sets You Apart (Adjacent & Utility Experience Welcome)

  • Experience estimating heavy civil, heavy industrial, power plant, marine, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Direct background with utility systems or electrical substations and transmission facilities.
  • Experience supporting clean energy integration (offshore wind, battery energy storage, hydroelectric).
  • Familiarity with utility capital budgeting processes, utility economics, and local/national industry codes and standards.
