The Senior Systems Engineer / Oracle DBA will provide enterprise systems administration, Oracle database administration, cybersecurity compliance, and scientific computing support for the Naval Research Laboratory's Space Science Division. This role supports mission-critical research, business applications, and IT infrastructure across Windows, Linux, Solaris, and macOS environments, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing systems for scientific and administrative users.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Oracle 12c/19c databases, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Forms & Reports, OID, LDAP, and related technologies.
- Support custom Management Information Systems (MIS) applications, database development, performance tuning, backups, and disaster recovery.
- Manage Windows, Linux, Solaris, and macOS servers, workstations, storage systems, and enterprise infrastructure.
- Support scientific computing environments, data processing systems, and research applications including Python, IDL, MATLAB, and related tools.
- Implement system upgrades, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and cybersecurity compliance in accordance with DoD, Navy, and STIG requirements.
- Perform system monitoring, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and root-cause analysis for infrastructure, applications, and databases.
- Administer backup, recovery, and high-availability solutions to ensure continuity of operations.
- Manage user accounts, access controls, authentication services, and security configurations.
- Provide Tier II/III technical support to scientific, engineering, and administrative personnel.
- Develop technical documentation, configuration management records, and infrastructure improvement recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems administration, database administration, or related IT disciplines.
- Hands-on experience administering Oracle databases and associated middleware technologies.
- Strong experience supporting Windows and Linux enterprise environments.
- Experience with backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning, and enterprise storage solutions.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, vulnerability management, and system hardening.
- Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure, application, and database issues.
- Secret Clearance required.
- US Citizenship required.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Forms & Reports, OID, LDAP, and PL/SQL development.
- Experience supporting Solaris and macOS environments.
- Experience supporting scientific research, high-performance computing (HPC), or data-intensive environments.
- Familiarity with Python, IDL, MATLAB, FORTRAN, Java, C++, or other scientific computing tools.
- Experience in DoD, Federal Government, Navy, or research laboratory environments.
- Security+, Oracle certifications, or other relevant technical certifications.
- Experience implementing STIGs, ACAS, IAVA/IAVB remediation, and cybersecurity compliance requirements.
Skill Levels:
- System Administrator with Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) and 3+ years of experience: $90-95,000
- Systems Engineer with Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) and 10+ years of experience: $130-140,000
- Senior DBA with Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) 10+ years of experience: $145-155,000
