This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. FTT will require proof of status prior to employment.

Essential Job Functions:



  • Uses computer-aided design and analysis tools to perform complex engineering tasks.
  • Responsible for optimizing the rotor thrust balance systems.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new or modified assemblies and components.
  • Determine cooling designs for electronic, combustor and turbine components.
  • Responsible for evaluating and optimizing the secondary flow and leakages.
  • Documents changes through a formal engineering change notification process.
  • Learns to use professional concepts.
  • Applies company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
  • Works on problems of limited scope.
  • Builds stable working relationships internally.
  • Normally receives detailed instructions on all work.
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by company and government requirements
  • Communicate and interact effectively with peers, supervisors, and public, including maintaining respect for others, and following company policies.

Required Experience:

  • Proficiency in fundamental heat transfer and fluid dynamic analyses ihand-calculations and a good understanding of practical design limitations.
  • Awareness of turbomachinery cycle performance drivers and trade factors.
  • Experience in computational simulations including conjugate CFD modeling, finite element modeling and correlation with experimental testing is desirable.
  • Experience with Python, Fortran or other programming skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: experience integrating work in a team and interfacing with customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities as it pertains to your job.


Education and Experience:



  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with 2+ years of applied industry experience in fluid or thermal design and analysis, OR Masters in a related field.
  • Gas turbomachinery experience preferred.


Work Environment/Physical Requirements:



  • Office and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, mouse, phones, rotating wrist, using tools/equipment).
