The primary duty of the MO/KS DOT Team Lead is to manage a team whose focus will be delivering projects for MoDOT, KDOT, and KTA. Additionally, this position will build relationships with clients, identify pursuits, and develop win strategies, recruit staff, and work on project delivery in a project management role.

  • The MO/KS DOT Team Lead will need to provide some Project Manager responsibilities and be experienced in pursuing and delivering transportation projects for MoDOT, KDOT, and KTA. Familiarity with either/all these agencies and their standards and key staff is vital.
  • The ideal candidate will have previous leading roles performing concept/feasibility studies and have an ability to mentor and oversee design tasks which could include traffic, drainage, permitting, utilities, geometric design, and modeling.
  • Experience must include urban and rural highway projects, traffic engineering, concept alignments, geometrical layout, and design representation during construction. Coordination of multi-discipline projects including survey, grading, drainage, structures, utilities, and layout of various site items is a requirement.
  • Experience with supervising the work of a medium size team of professionals is beneficial.
  • Project Management, quality assurance/control checks, and technical review experience are required.
  • Marketing and project pursuit experience is a key requirement of this position.
  • This position would also include a leadership role in preparation and negotiation with clients for fee proposals, contracts, scopes, and schedules.
  • It would also include day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with clients, support and advise junior engineers and technical staff, write reports and technical memos, coordinate with sub-consultant partners, and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • The MO/KS DOT Team Lead will also be performing other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in geometric design and traffic design
  • Experience with supervising the work of a project team as a Project Manager or assistant project manager
  • Marketing and project pursuit experience
  • Experience using Microstation, Geopak, and/or Inroads design software in version SS2, SS4, and/or CONNECT
  • Experience with KDOT and/or MoDOT
  • Document control experience (ProjectWise a plus)
  • Experienced in managing and delivering highway projects in the MO/KS Area required
  • Project Management experience with an understanding of PULSE and Staffing Tool
  • PE or equivalent licensure preferred
  • Transportation-related project experience preferred
  • Excellent marketing experience preferred
  • Prior consulting experience preferred
  • Local candidates are preferred

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
