Position Summary

The Service Manager is responsible for leading and supporting a team of service technicians to ensure the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of commercial HVAC/R and plumbing services. This role provides daily operational oversight, technical guidance, and field support while partnering with Dispatch, Sales, and Operations to maximize productivity, deliver exceptional customer service, and ensure compliance with company policies and safety standards.

Essential Functions


  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical support to service technicians to ensure quality workmanship, safety, and productivity.
  • Develop estimates and proposals for small service projects and repair work.
  • Conduct regular field visits to evaluate technician performance, provide coaching, and reinforce company standards.
  • Promote new business with existing and future customers through regular visits.
  • Engage with technicians while on locations to identify areas of growth, opportunity, and deficiencies.
  • Ensure technicians comply with company policies, work rules, and all safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with Dispatch and the Regional Manager to effectively schedule technicians and balance workloads.
  • Coordinate staffing levels based on seasonal demands and workload requirements.
  • Foster a positive team culture through regular communication, meetings, coaching, and employee engagement.
  • Develop and maintain proficiency in Build Opps while ensuring its effective use by the service team.
  • Monitor technician productivity by minimizing non-billable time and ensuring accurate, complete work order documentation.
  • Approve purchases of small tools, equipment, and truck stock within established guidelines.
  • Assist in managing departmental overhead expenses and controlling operating costs.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by ensuring timely communication, proactive follow-up, and prompt resolution of customer concerns.
  • Promote and encourage technicians to identify additional service opportunities, repairs, and project leads.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, as required.
  • Review and respond to technician comments and documentation within Build Opps.
  • Support technician training and development, including cross-training and apprenticeship programs.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Projects, Dispatch, ATC, regional leadership, and other departments to coordinate workloads, support customer needs, and promote effective teamwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Experience, Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive field experience in commercial HVAC/R and plumbing service.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC/R and plumbing systems, including Chillers, Boilers, Building Management Systems (BMS) and controls, Clean room environments, Industrial process applications, Mechanical system design and operation
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop technicians.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, customers, vendors, and management.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and perform effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and field service management software, preferably Field Centrix.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
