As part of the City's Bus Action Plan, Traffic Control & Engineering (TCE) is expanding its workforce to support initiatives that improve bus speed, reliability, accessibility, and the overall rider experience along priority bus corridors throughout New York City. These positions will play a critical role in installing and maintaining vertical elements, bus stop infrastructure, and regulatory and informational signage necessary to implement bus priority improvements and advance the City's transportation goals. TCE Traffic Device Maintainers (TDMs) will install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices such as traffic signs on streets and highways, stanchions and supports, citywide bus stops, informational and regulatory signs, and pavement markings; operate, maintain, and make minor adjustments to motor vehicles, pavement marking machines, air compressors, pavement breakers, snowplows, and other field and shop equipment. They will perform manual labor in the loading and unloading of trucks and the placement of traffic devices, rigs; climb and work from ladders, tower trucks, and bucket trucks. If selected, you may be assigned to remove traffic encumbrances, operate a motor vehicle, and perform other related duties. All TDMs will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all agency safety rules and regulations in creating a safe work environment for themselves and colleagues, ensuring all safety equipment and gear are used and worn properly on work sites. Two years of full-time satisfactory experience using hand and/or power tools to assemble, repair, maintain and/or install mechanical and/or electrical devices; or Preferred Skills Preference given to candidate possessing CDL Class B license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions.
