Important Information

  • Orientation will be conducted in Houston, TX.
  • Candidates should be comfortable traveling to Houston, TX for orientation.


Work Schedule: 1st Shift

  • Monday - Thursday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Friday: 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM



Position Summary

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
  • Demonstrates technique(s) using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understands all physicians' orders.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test orders.
  • Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Packages specimens for transport.
  • Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labels specimens, and follows transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attends annual department training.
  • Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of overall experience.
