PROFESSOR OF INSTRUCTION (ANY RANK) ONLINE MPH PRG

The University of Iowa College of Public Health invites applicants for a full-time academic-year non-tenure Professor of Instruction (any rank) starting Fall 2026 which will support the launch and ongoing delivery of a new online Master of Public Health (MPH) program designed for practicing professionals beginning Fall 2027.

The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching working adult learners, experienced in online pedagogy, and committed to competencybased public health education consistent with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) expectations for instructional faculty and curriculum design. This new MPH program is designed for early to mid-career public health professionals, whether they are already working in public health or seeking a career change, building on each student's former education, work experience, and skills.

Rank will be based on experience and record of achievement. A full-time appointment includes teaching up to 8 classes/year. The initial appointment will be for three years, subject to annual review. This faculty position is renewable and includes opportunities for promotion with longer appointment intervals of up to five years. Faculty also serve the department and college as part of their appointment, including participation in college and department activities, committees, and student organizations. Instructional track faculty members are eligible to participate in all aspects of collegiate and departmental governance, contributing to reviews related to their faculty track. Teaching and service assignments are subject to change and are determined on an annual basis with collegiate/departmental administration.

Qualified candidates will have a public health specialty area that aligns with one of the departments in the College of Public Health - biostatistics, community and behavioral health, epidemiology, health management and policy, and/or occupational and environmental health. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following roles:

Course Development & Instructional Design

• Lead the development of new online courses aligned with CEPH foundational and concentration competencies, applying competencybased curriculum design and ensuring required accreditationaligned assessments are integrated.
• Collaborate with instructional designers and collegiate leadership on course mapping, learning outcomes, and assessment strategies.

Teaching & Course Delivery

• Teach graduatelevel online MPH courses across core and concentration areas.
• Deliver highquality, studentfocused instruction and maintain an active online presence.
• Incorporate best practices in online pedagogy, inclusive teaching, and adult learning.

Service & Program Support

• Contribute to departmental, programmatic, and college service activities.
• Participate in ongoing program evaluation, quality improvement, and accreditation processes.
• Support recruitment, outreach, and community engagement initiatives, as appropriate.

• PhD in related field or MA/MS/MPH with 5 years of experience in public health practice.

• Demonstrated record of excellence in graduate-level teaching, preferably within a CEPHaccredited school or MPH program.
• Experience teaching and developing courses, preferably in online or hybrid learning environments.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Evidence of collaborative work with instructional teams.
• Demonstrated commitment and/or experience working with students, staff, and faculty from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and to promoting a respectful and supportive online learning environment for all.

• Experience working with professional or adult learners.
• Experience implementing competencybased assessments or contributing to accreditation documentation.
• Practice experience in public health or related fields at local, state, national, or global levels.
