Adjunct Instructor

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Carver College of Medicine is seeking applicants for an adjunct instructor position for the 2026-2027 academic year. The position can be renewed based on the department's teaching needs and performance evaluation.

The duties of the position will focus primarily on assisting course directors in the following courses: MICR:2157 General Microbiology Lecture, MICR:2158 General Microbiology Lab, MICR:3164 Microbiology and Human Health Lecture and Lab and MED:8223 Mechanisms of Health and Disease IV Microbiology Lab. The primary duties will include: 1) Assist with lab setup and cleanup, 2) Prepare and present introductory lectures for laboratory courses, 3) Guide students through lab exercises and maintain a safe laboratory environment, 4) Grade weekly discussion posts and laboratory skills assessments, 5) Respond to student emails and host weekly office hours, 6) Schedule and proctor makeup exams and labs, 7) Attend weekly teaching assistance meetings and 8) Other duties to support the successful completion of the above courses.

Education Requirement:

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or other related fields.

Required Qualification:

* Undergraduate or graduate coursework in microbiology, bacteriology, and/or virology.

* Strong interpersonal skills that would allow them to interact with faculty, students and staff.

* Excellent administrative, time and project management, and communication skills that would allow them to efficiently manage the administrative aspects of the courses.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualification:

* Experience as a teaching assistant, learning assistant, and/or tutor in an undergraduate course.

* Successful completion of one or more courses described above.
