Working Title: CAL-SOAP Student Success Coordinator
Classification: Student Services Professional I

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the CAL-SOAP Administrator, the Student Services Professional I (SSP I) serves as a Student Success Coordinator providing outreach, advising, and college access services to high school students at assigned Los Angeles-area school sites.

The incumbent delivers college-readiness guidance, financial aid advising, and postsecondary planning support to increase college enrollment and completion rates among financial assistance recipients. The SSP I serves as a liaison between assigned high school sites and the CAL-SOAP LA Consortium and supports implementation of statewide initiatives, including the #AllInForFinancialAid campaign.

This classification performs entry-level professional student services work under general supervision.

Essential Functions

Student Advising and Direct Support - 40%

  • Provide one-on-one and group advising to high school students regarding A-G requirements, college admissions, and financial aid processes (FAFSA/CADAA).
  • Assist students and families with completing and submitting college and financial aid applications.
  • Interpret policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements related to postsecondary access.
  • Maintain confidential advising records and document student interactions in program databases.

Outreach, Workshops, and Educational Programming - 30%

  • Develop and deliver classroom presentations and workshops on college readiness, financial aid, and career exploration.
  • Plan and coordinate financial aid completion events, parent workshops, and college awareness activities.
  • Support recruitment and engagement of eligible high school seniors into CAL-SOAP programming.
  • Utilize approved communication platforms, including social media, to promote services and increase student engagement.

Program Coordination and Liaison Activities - 20%

  • Serve as site liaison between CAL-SOAP and assigned high school(s).
  • Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and consortium partners to support student success initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and task coordination to College Corps Fellows assigned to the site, if applicable.
  • Support implementation of statewide and consortium initiatives at the school site.
  • Attend required orientations, trainings, and monthly meetings.

Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities - 10%

  • Maintain accurate and timely student participation records in program databases.
  • Assist with scheduling workshops, college visits, and outreach events.
  • Prepare basic reports and summaries as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of program goals.

Results and Outputs

The Student Services Professional I is expected to produce the following measurable outcomes:

  • Increased FAFSA/CADAA completion rates at assigned school sites.
  • Increased college application submission and completion rates.
  • Accurate and timely documentation of student services provided.
  • Successful implementation of financial aid awareness campaigns.
  • Increased participation in college access workshops and outreach events.
  • Positive collaboration and communication with high school personnel and consortium partners.
  • Effective support and coordination of College Corps Fellows, if assigned.
  • Compliance with grant reporting and program documentation requirements.

Performance is evaluated based on the achievement of program goals, the quality and timeliness of advising services, the accuracy of reporting, the effectiveness of collaboration, and contributions to overall student access and success outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.
  • Enrollment in a graduate program (minimum 6 units) at the time of appointment.
  • Must demonstrate financial need by providing a current Student Aid Index (SAI) report at the time of interview.
  • Knowledge of college admissions requirements, A-G standards, and financial aid processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Availability to work in person at assigned high school sites during regular school hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate coursework in Education, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field.
  • Experience in college access, outreach, TRIO, or similar programs.
  • Experience delivering presentations and workshops.
  • Bilingual proficiency.
  • Experience with student data systems.

The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
