Director of Development

ZRG Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with Chamber Music Maryland in the search for a Director of Development.

Reporting to the Managing Artistic Director, the Director of Development will be a strategic, relationship-driven leader who will expand the organization's fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Managing Artistic Director, the Director will design and execute a comprehensive development program encompassing individual giving, major gifts, institutional support, sponsorships, special events, and donor stewardship. The successful candidate will be an engaging ambassador and persuasive advocate for Chamber Music Maryland's mission, with the creativity and initiative to cultivate meaningful relationships, broaden the organization's base of support, and build the philanthropic resources necessary to advance its artistic and community impact.

While currently structured as a part-time position, the role offers meaningful potential to grow into a full-time opportunity as Chamber Music Maryland's fundraising program and contributed revenue expand.

Founded in 1972 as the Candlelight Concert Society, Chamber Music Maryland is a nationally recognized concert presenter and arts education provider dedicated to bringing exceptional chamber music to audiences throughout Maryland and the greater Washington Baltimore region. Now entering its 54th season, the organization presents distinguished national and international ensembles and soloists while also championing emerging artists, including winners of leading international competitions.

Based in Columbia, Chamber Music Maryland presents performances at venues across the region, including Howard Community College's Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center, UMBC's Linehan Concert Hall, the historic Peale Museum in Baltimore, and other community and cultural spaces. Its annual Free-for-All Concert and free performances in senior communities, libraries, community centers, and other accessible settings reflect the organization's commitment to removing barriers and ensuring that world-class chamber music is available to audiences of all backgrounds.

Their 20262027 season is one of discovery and depth, as they celebrate debuts, beloved returnees, and bold new collaborations. The season includes two thrilling CMM debuts: the French-Belgian Quatuor Danel, joined by the incomparable cellist Natalie Clein in Schubert's sublime String Quintet, and the electrifying Chiaroscuro Quartet, who appeared during Women's History Month. They also are delighted to welcome back harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, whose return was one of their most requested. And, they are honored to present legendary pianist Richard Goode, now Distinguished Artist Faculty at Peabody Conservatory, in a long-awaited return to CMM's stage.

At least three years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferably within an arts, cultural, educational, or other mission-driven nonprofit organization, is required for this position. Experience working within a classical music, chamber music, performing arts, or cultural organization is preferred. Chamber Music Maryland will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. This is a part-time position with a target annual salary of $60,000. A stipend toward the cost of health insurance is available.

A hybrid work arrangement is possible, with regular in-person presence expected in Columbia, Maryland, for meetings, donor engagement, concerts, fundraising events, and other organizational activities. The Director of Development must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends in support of concerts, donor cultivation activities, and fundraising events.
