Part-Time Course Facilitator - Dental Assisting Program

The Workforce Development Dental Assisting Program is seeking a qualified Part-Time Course Facilitator to teach the didactic and classroom-based practical components of the Dental Assisting Program.

The curriculum is based on Modern Dental Assisting, 14th Edition. All textbook chapters have been reviewed and evaluated, and the core instructional materials, chapter quizzes, and section examinations have already been developed.

The Course Facilitator will be responsible for effectively teaching the assigned didactic material and creating hands-on classroom activities that reinforce the concepts covered in each lesson. Instruction will take place in a fully functioning dental training facility, allowing students to connect classroom knowledge with practical dental-assisting procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Part-Time Course Facilitator will:



  • Teach assigned didactic material from Modern Dental Assisting, 14th Edition.
  • Follow the established Dental Assisting Program curriculum and course schedule.
  • Use the previously developed presentations, instructional materials, chapter quizzes, and section examinations.
  • Develop hands-on practical exercises that reinforce the didactic material presented during class.
  • Demonstrate dental-assisting procedures, equipment, instruments, materials, and clinical workflows.
  • Guide students through practical exercises in the fully functioning dental training facility.
  • Connect textbook concepts to realistic chairside and dental-office scenarios.
  • Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, supervision, and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain an organized, professional, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.
  • Reinforce infection prevention, occupational safety, patient privacy, professionalism, and proper clinical procedures.
  • Record and monitor student attendance.
  • Grade assignments, quizzes, examinations, classroom participation, and practical activities.
  • Maintain accurate grades and attendance records using the college's online learning or student-management system.
  • Identify students who may require additional academic or practical support.
  • Communicate student progress and concerns to the Dental Assisting Program administration.
  • Attend required meetings, orientations, training sessions, and program-development activities.
  • Perform other instructional duties related to the Dental Assisting Program as assigned.


Required Qualifications:



  • Formal education and professional experience in dental assisting, dentistry, dental hygiene, or a closely related dental field.
  • Strong knowledge of dental-assisting procedures, terminology, instruments, materials, infection control, and chairside techniques.
  • Ability to teach didactic material clearly and translate textbook concepts into hands-on classroom activities.
  • Experience working in a dental office, dental clinic, educational laboratory, or clinical training environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate procedures safely and supervise students during practical exercises.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain attendance and grading records using an online system.
  • Commitment to student success and the ability to work with students from diverse educational, professional, and cultural backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Current or previous experience teaching dental assisting or another allied-health subject.
  • Certified Dental Assistant credential or other recognized dental certification.
  • Expanded-functions dental assisting experience.
  • Experience using Modern Dental Assisting, 14th Edition.
  • Familiarity with DANB examination content and CODA-aligned dental-assisting competencies.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Experience developing laboratory exercises, skills assessments, and practical competency evaluations.


Physical and Facilitator Requirements:

The facilitator must be able to:



  • Stand and move throughout the classroom and dental laboratory for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate the use of dental instruments, equipment, materials, and clinical procedures.
  • Safely supervise students working in dental operatories.
  • Assist with the preparation, organization, and breakdown of classroom and laboratory activities.
  • Follow all applicable infection-control, OSHA, HIPAA, and institutional safety requirements.

Day: Tuesdays

Time: 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Additional Information:

Salary: $36.55 an hour. Part-Time Non-Benefited position.
