Chemical Technician Specialist

Huntsman is seeking a Chemical Technician Specialist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in HATC, TX. This position will report to the Technical Services Lab Manager.

Job Scope

The Chemical Technician Specialist provides advanced technical support for technical service, research, product development, manufacturing, and commercialization activities. This role independently plans and executes laboratory and technical programs, generates high-quality data, provides technical expertise and recommendations, and supports business objectives through collaboration with scientists, engineers, manufacturing personnel, and commercial teams.

In summary, as the Chemical Technician Specialist, you will:

  • Independently plan, prioritize, and execute laboratory testing programs and technical projects.
  • Prepare and evaluate samples using established laboratory procedures and standardized test methods.
  • Perform physical, chemical, mechanical, thermal, rheological, electrical, and materials characterization testing.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate test results through reports, summaries, and presentations.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and qualify laboratory equipment.
  • Provide technical observations, recommendations, and practical solutions that support project and business objectives.
  • Lead assigned projects, managing schedules, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, manufacturing personnel, quality teams, and commercial stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory procedures, testing methods, workflows, and operational efficiency.
  • Train, mentor, and support colleagues in laboratory practices, testing methods, equipment operation, data documentation, and safety requirements.
  • Support customer-facing technical activities, including evaluations, demonstrations, field trials, technical inquiries, and application support.
  • Maintain compliance with Huntsman Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards.
Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Materials Science, or a related technical field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in laboratory testing, product development support, technical service, manufacturing support, or related chemical industry roles.
  • Experience using ASTM, ISO, customer-specific, and other standardized testing methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency operating laboratory equipment, collecting and analyzing data, troubleshooting issues, and documenting results.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Broad technical knowledge of laboratory operations, testing methodologies, instrumentation, and safe work practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound judgment and independent decision-making skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across technical and functional teams.
  • Effective mentoring, coaching, and knowledge-sharing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, laboratory information systems, and data management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional education or specialized training in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with thermoset polymers, composites, adhesives, coatings, electrical insulation materials, or related technologies.
  • Experience supporting product development, technical service, manufacturing support, or customer-focused technical programs.
  • Experience leading projects, implementing process improvements, or improving laboratory methods and workflows.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or providing technical leadership to other laboratory personnel.

Working Environment

  • Laboratory environment.
