The Role

The Department Manager, Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Engineering provides leadership, direction, and technical oversight for the CSA discipline in Worley's Charleston, West Virginia office. This role is responsible for the overall performance of the department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and successful delivery of engineering services while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

Working closely with project teams, clients, and discipline leaders, the Department Manager champions quality outcomes and supports the delivery of innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions that meet client requirements and align with Worley's standards, systems, and ways of working.

The successful candidate will lead and develop a high-performing team, providing coaching, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth while promoting an inclusive and engaging work environment. The role also supports business growth by strengthening client relationships, identifying opportunities, and contributing to the continued success and expansion of Worley's CSA capability across the region.

Eligibility: This position is open only to individuals who are legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this role now or in the future.

What you'll do

Department Leadership & Operations

  • Provide leadership and direction for the CSA discipline, ensuring alignment with Worley's processes, governance framework, and strategic objectives.
  • Drive departmental performance through effective planning, resource management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify, assess, and escalate operational and project-related risks, collaborating with stakeholders to develop practical solutions.
  • Foster strong collaboration across disciplines, project teams, clients, suppliers, and contractors to support successful project delivery.
  • Oversee departmental administrative activities, including workforce planning, timesheet approvals, and expense management.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing team capable of delivering projects safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the Worley framework.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead regular department communications to align teams on priorities, performance expectations, business updates, and key initiatives.
  • Promote open communication and knowledge sharing across project and functional teams.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, project updates, and business briefings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply sound judgment, analytical thinking, and effective communication to support informed decision-making and successful outcomes.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Champion Worley's LIFE program and Zero Harm culture, ensuring health, safety, and environmental considerations are embedded in all activities.
  • Lead by example in promoting safe behaviors, risk awareness, and personal accountability across the CSA team.

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Support business growth by contributing discipline expertise to proposals, estimates, and project pursuits.
  • Lead CSA scope development and Cost, Time and Resource (CTR) estimating activities for bids and opportunities.
  • Represent the CSA discipline in client meetings, presentations, and business development discussions.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships while supporting long-term partnerships and repeat business opportunities.
  • Maintain current discipline capability information, resource profiles, and qualification materials to support project pursuits.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead workforce planning and resource allocation to meet business and project requirements.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers, designers, and discipline leaders, fostering both technical and leadership capability.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and career development initiatives.
  • Create an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, development planning, and employee recognition.
  • Encourage professional growth, continuing education, and professional registration opportunities.

Technical Excellence & Quality

  • Provide technical leadership and ensure compliance with Worley's engineering practices, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote consistency and quality across CSA deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Lead technical reviews and assurance activities to maintain the quality, integrity, and constructability of engineering solutions.
  • Drive the effective use of industry-standard engineering and design technologies to enhance project delivery and productivity.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by leveraging lessons learned, best practices, and innovation across projects.
  • Support the effective utilization of Worley's global delivery network to optimize project execution.

Project Delivery

  • Ensure CSA scope, schedule, cost, and quality objectives are clearly defined and effectively managed throughout project execution.
  • Partner with Project Managers to support forecasting, resource planning, budgeting, and performance monitoring activities.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues that may impact project outcomes, client satisfaction, or commercial performance.
  • Support the delivery of fit-for-purpose solutions that meet client requirements while maintaining Worley's standards for quality and safety.

Risk Management & Assurance

  • Participate in project risk assessments and ensure technical and execution risks are identified, communicated, and managed effectively.
  • Support internal and external audits and promote compliance with quality management and assurance requirements.
  • Drive risk-informed decision-making to support safe, predictable, and successful project delivery.

Global Integrated Delivery

  • Lead collaboration with Worley's global delivery teams, including High Value Engineering Centers (HVECs), to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Develop local team capability to support effective worksharing and global project execution.
  • Promote seamless collaboration across regions, disciplines, and delivery centers to maximize efficiency and project performance.

CSA Technical Expertise

Provide leadership and oversight across the full CSA discipline, including:

  • Civil Engineering: Site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, transportation infrastructure, and foundation systems.
  • Structural Engineering: Steel and concrete structures, equipment support systems, industrial facilities, and foundation design.
  • Architectural Engineering: Building design, code compliance, material selection, and integration with structural and building systems.
  • Integrated Design: Coordination across civil, structural, architectural, and multi-discipline project teams to deliver cohesive engineering solutions.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to project and facility access requirements.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in West Virginia, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate to Charleston, West Virginia, and maintain a strong presence within the office to support team collaboration, mentorship, and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in civil, structural, and architectural engineering within an EPC, consulting, or industrial project environment, including significant, progressive experience leading complex projects and teams.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams, supervising personnel, and managing departmental or discipline performance.
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically for client engagements, site visits, and project-related activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within global delivery and workshare environments, leveraging geographically distributed teams to support integrated project execution.
  • Strong understanding of industrial, energy, chemicals, refining, manufacturing, or infrastructure project delivery environments.
