Job Summary The Ophthalmic Assistant supports patients and families throughout their visit in the outpatient ophthalmology clinic. Working as part of the care team, this role performs clinical testing, documents patient information, supports patient flow, and helps ensure patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate care.Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Prepare patients for visual field testing and other ophthalmic assessments. -Obtain and document patient history, current eye medications, medical history, and chief eye concerns in the health record. -Perform color vision, glare, and brightness testing as appropriate. -Support an efficient patient flow by coordinating testing and adjusting the sequence of activities based on patient needs and physician direction. -Adjust testing and patient care activities based on patient responses and condition, within the scope of the role and established protocols. -Follow infection prevention and control policies and procedures to promote a safe environment for patients, families, and staff. -Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the patient health record. -Follow professional standards, organizational policies and procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including Joint Commission standards. -Provide respectful, patient-centered support to patients and families throughout their visit.
