Job Summary Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, the Ophthalmic Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality eye care in an outpatient clinic. This role combines hands-on patient care, clinical testing, ophthalmic procedures, and administrative responsibilities to help ensure a smooth and positive patient experience.Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Perform a variety of vision and ocular tests, imaging, and assessments to prepare patients for comprehensive eye examinations. -Identify and administer diagnostic eye drops as directed by the clinician and in accordance with established protocols. -Assist the ophthalmologist with minor in-office procedures, including injections and cryotherapy, under appropriate supervision and direction. -Maintain exam rooms with adequate medical and ophthalmic supplies. -Measure and document vital signs as directed for procedures and other clinical needs. -Clean, calibrate, and perform basic maintenance of ophthalmic equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and infection control standards. -Properly handle, store, and transport specimens, instruments, and medications according to established procedures. -Support administrative functions, including patient call triage and in-basket management, as assigned. -Provide cross-coverage at other ophthalmology services and locations as needed. -Follow hospital policies and procedures, applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and Joint Commission standards.
