Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation is responsible for designing, building, and operating our unified global datacenters, managing the supply planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure, and is responsible for all of the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams).

The CO+I Demand Planning Data Science team delivers Microsoft's Long Range Infrastructure plan using state of the art econometric/ML models, risk simulations and business intelligence. We are hiring Data and Applied Scientist to focus on creating cutting edge econometric/ ML demand and capacity need models. Additionally, they will have to be able to leverage their software engineering skills to connect to various upstream and downstream systems ensuring the forecasting plan matches the execution.

• Apply their expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to develop econometric/ ML models

• Understand fundamental business dynamics impacting demand, and develop automated statistical solutions for forecasting.

• Develop E2E models in Python - including data manipulation, model building and business applications

• Work closely with program managers, users and stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize features, and drive good design.
• Collaborate with access control to ensure compliance and data security.
• Drive continuous improvement through good documentation, adherence to agile methodology, and commitment to measuring success.
• Be an active member of the Data ScienceCenter of Excellence by staying up to date on technology and proactively participating in efforts to document and promote Power BI best practice.
• Embrace AI both to improve your productivity as a developer and enable new self-service capabilities for users.

Required qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) AND/OR practical experience is required.

• Experience developing and deploying predictive analytics, econometric, machine learning, or forecasting models that drive business decision-making.
• Demonstrated experience in solving complex problems across demand and supply operations.
• Proficiency in Python, including data wrangling, statistical analysis, model development, automation, and productionization of analytics solutions.
• Proven ability to translate statistical concepts and insights into clear, actionable information for a broad range of audiences.
• Experience translating business requirements into scalable analytical solutions through close collaboration with program managers, stakeholders, and end users.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-powered tools and copilots to improve development productivity, automate workflows, and enhance self-service analytics capabilities.

Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
