Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC has a potential need for a Senior Research Aerospace Physiologist to provide support for our government customer in San Antonio, TX.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a national-level SME to design countermeasures and build a robust research portfolio that addresses DoW aerospace medicine requirements.
  • Serve as an SME in designing operational or medical countermeasures effective against current space and high-altitude physiological challenges, specifically optimized for DoW capabilities.
  • Develop and lead a nationally recognized research program in space and aerospace medicine that directly supports Department of War strategic goals.
  • Analyze and communicate key challenges and R&D priorities for national security organizations to build and refine the COSMIC research portfolio.
  • Interpret and apply Federal, DoW, and Air Force medical and personnel polices to ensure all proposed COSMIC research initiatives meet strict human subject research regulatory requirements.
  • Execute complex RT&E protocols within high-hazard environments, including centrifuges and environmental chambers.
  • Provide advanced technical support for human-use centrifuge, high-altitude, and environmental chamber research.
  • Independently lead, conduct, and manage physiological tests and RT&E protocols in sustained acceleration, simulated space, and high-altitude environments, utilizing advanced knowledge of space physiology and human systems integration.
  • Administer RT&E protocols and monitor/measure physiological data to draw scientific conclusions about human performance in aerospace environments.
  • Serve as the primary lead for protecting human subjects during high-risk RT&E, ensuring strict adherence to safety and ethical standards.
  • Author the technical frameworks and reports necessary for the approval, execution, and dissemination of aerospace physiology research.
  • Prepare complex RT&E proposals, scientific protocols, and informed consent documents required for research authorization.
  • Prepare and maintain test results, technical information, and comprehensive reports detailing research progress and performance.
  • Provide expert evaluation, analysis, and recommendations for both ongoing and proposed aerospace physiology research efforts.
  • Develop and deliver high-level briefings on research progress and findings to senior DoW leadership and stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain critical working relationships across the JBSA medical community and national-level aerospace partners.
  • Establish and maintain constant, effective working relationships within the USAF COSMIC.
  • Maintain active partnerships with the 59th Medical Wing, the 711th Human Performance Wing, and counterparts in government, academia, and industry.
  • Maintain working relationships with Program Managers and acquisition staff involved in the procurement of medical systems and the conduct of aerospace medical research.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Masters degree in biological science or other relevant disciplne.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience and expertise in aerospace research (space-specific preferred) and evaluation for human systems and human performance research.
  • Knowledge in space physiology, human performance, medical research, human systems integration, and human subject research regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge in Federal and Department of War regulations, and Air Force medical and personnel policy related to human subject research.
  • Experience and expertise in space physiology research, and the ability to support, design, conduct, and independently lead a wide variety of physiological
  • tests and experiments in sustained acceleration, space, and high-altitude environments.
  • Experience presenting research at national or international meetings and as a published author in peer reviewed physiological and/or medical journals.
  • Must be willing and able to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
  • Must be willing to provide evidence of vaccinations.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a CAC card.
