About the Role

Our client, a global consumer brand, is looking for a senior Data Engineer to join their Finance data team. This person will help cover a leave of absence while also building new capabilities, tools, and data products that support profitability and margin improvement across the business.

You will work alongside product owners, data analysts, and business partners in an Agile/Scrum environment to design and deliver data products that leadership relies on to make decisions.

What You Will Do



  • Design and implement data products and features in partnership with product owners, data analysts, and business partners
  • Contribute to overall architecture, frameworks, and patterns for processing and storing large data volumes
  • Evaluate new technologies, tools, and frameworks centered on high volume data processing
  • Translate product backlog items into logical units of engineering work
  • Build distributed data processing pipelines using tools and languages common in the big data ecosystem
  • Build utilities, user defined functions, libraries, and frameworks that enable better data flow patterns
  • Partner with engineering leads and other teams to ensure quality solutions and adherence to engineering best practices
  • Build and incorporate automated unit tests and support integration testing
  • Use and advance continuous integration and deployment frameworks
  • Troubleshoot data issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Work across teams to resolve operational and performance issues

Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline (required)
  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale software development, with 5+ years in big data
  • Programming experience in Python or Scala
  • Experience with Hadoop and related processing frameworks such as Spark and Hive
  • Experience with messaging, streaming, and complex event processing tools and frameworks
  • Strong data warehousing concepts, SQL, and SQL analytical functions
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow
  • Experience with source control tools such as GitHub or Bitbucket
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum application development
  • Interest in and ability to quickly pick up new languages, technologies, and frameworks
  • Prior experience working within a large global consumer brand environment is required


Nice to Have



  • Experience with or knowledge of the finance domain
  • Experience with data analytics and BI tools
  • AWS and/or Databricks certifications
  • Java experience
  • Public cloud experience, particularly AWS and Databricks
  • Cloud warehouse tools such as Snowflake
  • NoSQL data stores such as HBase or DynamoDB
  • Building RESTful APIs to enable data consumption
  • Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation, and automation tools such as Jenkins or CircleCI
  • Continuous Development, Continuous Integration, and Automated Testing practices
