About This Role

The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is seeking a Research Technician. This role supports the execution of more than 40 agricultural research studies, ensuring they are conducted efficiently, within established timelines, and in accordance with best management practices in the experimental field. The research focuses on the biological, chemical, and physical principles that influence crop production while promoting natural resource conservation and environmental stewardship. This position plays a vital role in supporting research that benefits both current and future Kansas residents by helping maintain a reliable food supply and protecting surface and groundwater quality.



  • Assist in managing field operations across a 160-acre Experiment Farm and various off-station farmer sites by scheduling, transporting, and operating both large and small-scale sprayers, planting, and harvesting equipment.
  • Assess, perform, and supervise maintenance of equipment, buildings, and grounds,
    including roadways and grass waterways, to ensure a neat appearance and that equipment is
    prepared to complete tasks effectively.

The Department of Agronomy, together with the Research and Extension Centers, provides statewide leadership for teaching, research, and extension activities in plant breeding, crop production, range science, soil science, and weed sciences and contributes substantially to activities in genetics, water science, and environmental sciences.

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

* Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent).
* Valid Driver's License.
* Commercial Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

* One year of experience in farm operations, including maintenance, tillage, planting, spraying, and harvesting
* Hands-on experience operating, adjusting, and maintaining farm equipment
* Ability to operate field equipment safely and effectively
* Strong ability to build and maintain working relationships with faculty, staff, and students
* Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60 pounds

Additional Role Information:

* Private pesticide applicator's license (can be obtained after being hired).

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship
