What to Expect

The Hazardous Waste Operations Supervisor will supervise hazardous waste handling at Tesla's Page-Kato Campus in Fremont CA and ensure that operations comply with Tesla Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and federal, state, and local hazardous waste regulations. The Hazardous Waste Operations Supervisor will identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to reduce business risk and disposal costs.

What You'll Do
  • Supervise the Page-Kato campus hazardous waste operations team, lead weekly team meetings, and provide training and coaching to team members including written feedback and performance reviews
  • Oversee daily waste operations including scheduling waste shipments and staff, ensuring effective daily pass down and transition between work shifts, creating and maintaining waste profiles with vendors, scheduling waste shipments, and maintaining records
  • Ensure all central and satellite accumulation areas are kept clean and organized and that weekly and monthly compliance inspections are conducted on all central and satellite accumulation areas and identified corrective actions are completed
  • Coordinate hazardous material spill response activities as part of the Emergency Response Team and ensure internal event reports are prepared within 24 hours
  • Schedule and supervise performance of industrial cleaning tasks for routine and non-routine projects, including preparing necessary PPE for the team, and reviewing potential hazards with EHS prior to performing the work
  • Prepare quarterly budget forecasts and purchase requests for disposal and recycling and related equipment, review and process vendor invoices, and identify and implement cost reduction opportunities
  • Track and report out waste metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) and work with operations and Tesla's Bay Area environmental team to identify waste source reduction opportunities

What You'll Bring
  • Experience managing hazardous waste operations and staff in high tech manufacturing, research and development, or similar environment
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training. Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP) and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Certification is a plus, but not required
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be able to stand and/or walk for 10+ hrs daily and have a potential to work with materials whichcontainhazardous chemicals
  • Able to work outside for extending periods of time being exposed to various outdoor conditions like rain, sun, wind, and hot/cold temperatures
  • Ability to solve problems and work effectively and efficiently under pressure. Ability to interface with customers and manage team dynamics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote)
  • Valid driver's license required

    Expected Compensation
    $100,000 - $150,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
