What to Expect

The Senior Technical Writerplays a key roleonthe Industrial Product Management team. In this capacity, you join asmall, high-impacttechnical writing team producingpartner-facingindustry-leadingtechnical publicationsforTesla's industrial energy portfolio, which includesbattery energy storagesystems such as Tesla Megapackand expanding offerings such as utility-scale solar and data-center-adjacent products.

The teammaintainsand scales documentation for products withalongoperatinglife while enabling new product launches. You will work with product managers,content owners,and globalsubject matter expertsto turn technical input into specifications, design and installation guides, transportation andstorage guidance,owner's manuals,and relatedtechnical contentpublished to partner-facing standards. You multiply product capacity for documentation; you do not replace product ownership of technical truth.

As a member of theIndustrialProduct Management team, you willbe requiredto support multiple projects at once, wear many hats,and constantly innovate while adaptingto a fast-paced work environmentin a constantly shifting technology landscape. You will join a team with deep passion for changing the way we use energy on the electric grid.


What You'll Do
  • Createandmaintainhigh-quality partner-facingtechnical documentationfor industrial energy products
  • Prioritize and manage stakeholder input and expectations across the organization, interacting with executives, managers, engineers, and partners
  • Lead multi-document publication cycles that produce a clear, customer-facing source of truth for the organization
  • Drivecontentwith capacity-constrainedstakeholders:be a force-multiplierand exercise empathywithinthe real limits oneveryone's time
  • Manage tradeoffs across a multi-product portfolio
  • Use AI as a companion, not as a generative source of truth
  • Interact directly with hardware and/or software products to understand how they worktocreate content more effectively with the end-user in mind
  • Managedocument creationand continuous improvement as if the documents themselves are products, leading regular meetings with key stakeholders
  • Develop, as needed, and adhere to consistent style and formatting guidelines

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years technical writing for complex hardware/systems (or equivalent)
  • Portfolio of high-quality technical publications (partner/customer-facing preferred)
  • Excellent English writingskillsfor partner-facing audiences
  • Strong project management skills
  • Agility and ability to pivot, manage conflicting priorities, drop and take up work as needed,anddefine new processes where needed
  • Experience with review cycles, style guides, and multi-stakeholder prioritization
  • StrongproficiencywithMicrosoftOfficeandcontent tracking tools (such asJira/Confluence)
  • Experience with structured authoringusingDITA/Oxygen (or equivalent)
  • A love of terminology and empathy for various industrial energy personas
  • Experience documenting industrial energy products, data center hardware projects and/or with utility-scale solar projectsstrongly preferred

    Expected Compensation
    $84,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
