IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Idaho Falls, ID. Over 10-12 weeks, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. You will support project design, documentation, coordination, and site observations while working within project budgets and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. You will contribute to industrial and manufacturing-focused work while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA 2030. At a Glance Location: Idaho Falls, ID Discipline: Mechanical Markets: Industrial; Manufacturing; MEP Ownership: 100% employee-owned (ESOP) Work Schedule: Full-time in office, 10-12 week summer program Program Length: 10-12 week summer program Sponsorship: Not available What You'll Do Assist with design portions of discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards. Research commercially available equipment for project use. Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files. Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers. Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions promptly while monitoring project design progress. Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check. Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information. Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement. Work within the project's monetary budget and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. What You'll Bring Required Education Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required Required Skills/Abilities Strong interest in design consulting Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups Preferred Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred About the Team Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology design for complex buildings Deep portfolios in education, healthcare, mission-critical, and industrial markets National technical resources paired with local project relationships Strong support for MEP2050 and AIA 2030 sustainability commitments Recent work includes U.S. Environmental Protection Agency / Ann Arbor, MI / National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory / Energy Savings Performance Contract Design Oversight and Construction Follow-on Services, Government (Federal); FSU / Social Justice Museum / New Building, Education; and Faust Farms WTP and WWTP, Housing.
