Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Public Policy is an interdisciplinary social science major designed to provide students with the theoretical perspective, analytical skill, and substantive knowledge needed to respond to major domestic and global policy problems. The department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Public Policy ( MPP) degree, and a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree. This position will provide support for the MPP program and the Graduate Certificate in Innovation for the Public Good. The Master of Public Policy ( MPP) received approval from the UNC Board of Governors in July 2021, the inaugural MPP in the UNC System and the only public university MPP in North Carolina. UNC Public Policy offers an accelerated dual bachelor's-graduate degree. Students take graduate MPP courses in the spring semester of their senior year as they complete their undergraduate degree, and they receive an MPP in one additional academic year. MPP students focus on policy areas such as education, innovation and entrepreneurship, labor markets, health and social policy, immigration, environment, national security, international development, and global health and environment. The Carolina Graduate Certificate in Innovation for the Public Good ( CIPG) gives master's and doctoral students an educational pathway to explore modern changemaking and practice the skills they need to help create meaningful change in the world. The certificate is sponsored by three academic units: the College of Arts and Sciences (Public Policy), Gillings School of Global Public Health, and the School of Education. CIPG provides students from any department with the mindset, tools and methods they need to work effectively across disciplines to solve complex problems. The Certificate equips students with career-ready skills to use when working on multi-disciplinary teams in businesses, nonprofits and government agencies that increasingly demand the ability to apply cross-sector, community-engaged practices. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
