Phlebotomist Location: PSC 233 E. Erie St. suite 602 Chicago, IL 60611. Duration: 3 months Schedule: 7am to 8pm M-F Travel: The territory is mostly within Chicago but does go as far as Willowbrook IL Vaccination: Hepatitis B TB MMR T-DAP Flu Varicella COVID-19 Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations. Position Responsibilities: Experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection using straight needles and butterfly needles. Properly label, collect, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to test requirements. Match laboratory requisition forms, computer labels, and specimen tubes to physician orders with 100% accuracy. Carefully review physician orders and test requisitions to ensure correct specimen collection and processing. Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly, courteously, and professionally to patients. Collect and handle blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures. Package and prepare specimens for laboratory transportation, maintaining required temperature and specimen integrity. Record equipment maintenance, decontamination, and specimen-processing data accurately. Update and maintain patient information and laboratory records. Follow established protocols for specimen storage, handling, labeling, and transportation. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and laboratory safety procedures. Attend required annual departmental training and maintain knowledge of current procedures. Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results/information as appropriate while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. Minimum Qualifications:Valid state-required phlebotomy certification, where applicable. Experience: Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Education: High School Diploma or GED. Preferred/Required Experience: 2-4 years of relevant experience, as applicable.
