HJF is seeking a Computational Research Scientist II to design, implement, document, and maintain data-processing pipelines that support Performance Resiliency Optimization (PRO) Team research efforts and its personnel which enhances cognitive processing, physical capacity and emotional endurance via tailored training and recovery frameworks. Mainly works performing independent research in a focused problem area.

This position will be in support of 711 Human Performance Wing, Air and Space Biosciences Division, Performance Resiliency Optimization (PRO) laboratories.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine.   • Demonstrate software development skills by designing and/or implementing network protocols, biosensors and interfacing with eternal devices (input devices and/or measurement devices).
  • Plan, build, test, optimize and maintain data ecosystems particularly in the domains of human physiology, behavioral and mental health and human performance.
  • Demonstrate experience with data analytics and signal processing, preferably in the devices that measure human physiology and performance.
  • Assist in preparing/submission of protocol related documents to local and military Institutional (IRB) boards. Prepare progress reports, technical documentation and audit trails for compliance. Examples may include functional requirements documents, test plans, human subject protocols, technical reports and training materials.
  • Shall conduct literature reviews and summarize previous research concerning vision science, human performance, and fight simulation; design experiments to investigate human visual performance and individual difference in visual performance; data analysis; coordinates subject recruitment; carry out data collection; set-up, calibrate and operate experimental equipment, interpret data and model outputs.
  • Shall assist with an optimal summary and presentation of study data results in both peer reviewed published reports and presentations, in addition to completing technical review for research proposals, technical report/journal presentations/publications.
  • Assists in the identification, development, and maintenance of collaborations with both internal and external research groups for development of new approached to existing research problems.
  • Shall be responsible for providing direct support supervision to PRO Research technical staff (research assistants, data managers, junior engineers/computer scientists) and laborites. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in additional required training.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Math or related physical science discipline.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to develop and refine statistical analysis plans consistent with PRO protocol objectives, IRB requirements, DoD policy, AFRL standards, USSF operational priorities and biomedical data-collection requirements
  • Completion of Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject research training within the first month.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment.
  • May be required to travel in support of data collection, device implementation, site coordination, research collaboration, stakeholder engagement and external partner activities
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $93,100-$125,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
