Assistant/Associate Professor - Social and Behavioral Health

The West Virginia University (WVU) School of Public Health invites applicants for one 9-month tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to join the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. This is an opportunity to contribute to innovative teaching and research in a diverse academic environment. The Department currently includes 8 full-time faculty members with expertise and interests in substance use, maternal and child health, violence and injury prevention, mental health, cardiovascular disease, and health analytics. The department offers a PhD and MPH concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences, in addition to supporting the school's Public Health Sciences online MPH program and the on-campus BS program. Our diverse faculty partner with many agencies and organizations, including the West Virginia (WV) Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Health Affairs Institute, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, the WV Prevention Research Center, the WVU School of Medicine, Monongalia County Health Department and various offices within WV Department of Health and Human Resources, including the WV Bureaus for Medical Services, Public Health and Behavioral Health. The CEPH-accredited School of Public Health is located within WVU's Health Sciences Center campus in Morgantown, which is uniquely co-located with WVU Medicine's flagship hospital, and a regional office of CDC/NIOSH.

Position Description:
We invite applicants with broad research and teaching interests in behavioral science. We especially welcome applicants with an applied focus and who can teach courses critical to the needs of the Department and the School of Public Health. These needs/interests include, but are not limited to, grant writing, community assessment, community engagement and advocacy, research methods (including qualitative and mixed methods), and writing for public health audiences. Expertise and/or experience in issues pertaining to rural or underserved populations are especially desirable. Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an extramurally funded research agenda, teach courses in graduate and undergraduate programs in both online and place-based formats, mentor students, and participate in departmental and school-level service.

Specific Requirements:
The candidate should possess a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) with a concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences or a related discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology, health education/behavior). Applicants should supply a full curriculum vitae; cover letter detailing teaching philosophy and research interests, and full contact information for at least three professional references. Candidates should have strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills and be fluent in English.

This is a Morgantown-based position, and selected candidates will need to have the ability to teach on-campus and regularly attend meetings and other events in-person. The successful candidate is expected to start the position before the start of the Fall 2027 semester.
