What to Expect

Battery cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. The Cell Engineering team at Gigafactory Nevada is seeking an Engineering Manager to leadcell fieldreliability, qualification, and data engineerswithin thePowertrain Developmentorganization.

This role is primarily focused on field reliability and failure analysis driving root cause of field and manufacturing cell issues, risk assessment, and closed-loop corrective action for the programs your team supports. You will also oversee cell qualification efforts in Nevada and coordinate local test execution and analysis in partnership with the global cell qualification team.

You will work cross-functionally with cell development, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, service, and labs, partnering with engineering technicians through executives and suppliers. Domestic and international travel to internal sites and vendors is expected. The environment is fast-paced; radical ownership and a team-first mentality are critical.


What You'll Do
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the reliability, qualification, and data engineers on the team; build a culture of technical excellence, urgency, and accountability
  • Drive field and manufacturing failure analysis, root cause, and risk assessment for cell issues on the programs your team supports; push corrective actions and closed-loop learnings into design, process, and specs
  • Host cross-functional reviews on reliability status, program risk, and issue closure; communicate findings and recommendations clearly to partners and leadership
  • Lead FMEA and PCR risk evaluation with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality for cell reliability issues
  • Oversee Nevadacellqualification activitiesincludingtest coordination, progress tracking, and analysisaligned withthe global cell qualification team
  • Strengthen data analysis, visualization, and reporting sofailure analysisoutcomes and risk trends are visible early and actionable
  • Prioritize team workload across field returns, reliability programs, qualification support, and continuous improvement

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years in cell/battery field reliability, failure analysis, quality, or related work, with 4+ years leading engineering teams
  • Direct experience with lithium-ion cells (design, manufacturing, and/or testing), ideally in high-volume environments
  • Proven ownership of complex field or manufacturing failure investigations through root cause and corrective action
  • High-performancetrack recordon managingateamof engineers and technicians
  • Experience applying reliability engineering principles to product risk assessment, FMEA, and cross-functional issue resolution
  • Hands-on familiarity with cell characterization and FA techniques (electrochemical, thermal, mechanical, chemical, etc.)
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc.) and programming/query languages (SQL, Python, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary work, develop engineers, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including executives
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills; willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to internal sites and vendors
