THE POSITION

The Transportation Technician role with the Department of Transportation offers a chance to support essential projects that improve local roads and travel safety. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports a wide range of construction inspection tasks that help maintain safe and reliable transportation systems. The role involves reviewing project documentation, inspecting work sites, and supporting field operations. As a Transportation Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Inspection: Inspect construction activities to verify compliance with contract requirements and project plans
  • Documentation Review: Review records of completed work and materials to ensure accuracy and adherence to department standards
  • Field Coordination: Assist with organizing and maintaining project records, documentation systems, and required reporting tools
  • Construction Checks: Check grades, elevations, and work zone setups for proper placement and safety compliance
  • Material Evaluation: Make calculations, note field changes, and observe material testing to confirm consistency and quality

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Vendor controlled work schedule, hours may vary.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time/seasonally adhoc, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid PA Class C driver's license or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
