Job Summary

This position coordinates all aspects of emergency medicine clinical trials and research projects. Studies are conducted in a variety of therapeutic areas within the field of emergency medicine. In this position, the clinical research coordinator is responsible for the conduct of multiple clinical trials and research studies, including (but not limited to) recruitment, screening, enrollment (includes administering informed consent), data collection and management, study audits and monitoring visits, study closeouts, lab specimen processing, sponsor communications, and IRB and contract/budget submissions. Coordinator is also responsible for maintaining study datasheet/case report forms and regulatory binders. Coordinator will also provide general tasks and support related to the departmental research program as required, such as attend monthly research meetings, maintain departmental databases, mentor student volunteers, etc. Coordinator must have ability and willingness to work in the unique emergency department setting and must be comfortable interacting with patients and families during times of high stress. Position requires excellent verbal and written communications skills. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and the ability to conduct all research tasks following GCP guidelines, as well as university, state and federal policies and regulations regarding clinical research is essential. Coordinator must be willing to receive job-related training and education as necessary, which may sometimes require overnight travel. Bilingual skills, particularly fluency in Spanish, are highly preferred to support our diverse patient population.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Experience processing, storing, and shipping biological specimens, including blood and urine samples.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a clinical research, healthcare, laboratory, or related academic environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience coordinating projects, maintaining records, collecting data, or supporting research activities.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience interacting with patients, research participants, healthcare professionals, or customers in a professional setting.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience using computer applications and databases to document, track, and maintain records.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and standards for conducting clinical research.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, university, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations governing human subjects research.
  • Understanding of the informed consent process and ability to appropriately obtain and document informed consent from research participants.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as electronic medical records and research databases.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with research participants, investigators, physicians, hospital staff, sponsors, and external partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating professionalism, compassion, discretion, and sound judgment when working with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to patients, families, healthcare providers, and research personnel.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple studies, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and clinical procedures sufficient to accurately interpret and collect study-related data.
  • Ability to obtain medical histories, measure vital signs, administer study questionnaires, and perform protocol-specific study procedures.
  • Proficiency in the use of laboratory equipment and supplies, including pipettes, centrifuges, and biosafety cabinets.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to universal precautions, biosafety standards, and applicable laboratory safety regulations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and confidential research records in compliance with regulatory and study requirements.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly fluency in Spanish, are highly preferred to support our diverse patient population.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to data quality, protocol compliance, and participant safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline or a combination of education and relevant experience.
