Position Overview
This position is responsible for managing all the sanitation activities at our Eagan, MN production facility and providing leadership to ensure Catallia achieves the highest standards for environmental and food safety compliance. The Sanitation Manager is responsible for fostering and maintaining a food safety and hygiene culture within the company by supporting
many sanitation and food safety activities.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Change Management and Program Development -This department will undergo significant transformation over the next year. We need a leader who has successfully implemented major changes, developed new programs, and driven continuous improvement initiatives. A candidate whose experience has primarily been maintaining the status quo is unlikely to be successful in this environment.
- Flexible Work Schedule - The position will require occasional weekend presence to evaluate sanitation activities and support operational needs. I anticipate this would average at least one weekend every two months.
- Audit Leadership Experience - This individual will serve as the lead for our CFS audit program. We have an audit scheduled in December while Bob is still with the organization, which will provide an excellent opportunity for the new manager to learn our processes and expectations.
- Drive and manage the Environmental Program in a way that is used to collect and find important information with regard to microorganisms that will lead to conclusions about cleanliness and food safety. This is done by performing swabs, doing the plates, and reading them.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Sanitation Supervisor to ensure all plant/ground sanitation activities are completed; maintain the facility's Master sanitation schedule and ensure compliance.
- Effectively communicate and explain sanitation processes, food safety practices, documentation, and corrective actions to internal and external auditors.
- Understand the proper mixing, dilution, and titration of sanitation chemicals to ensure effective and safe cleaning and sanitation practices.
- Successfully guide different auditors - FDA, SQF, CFS, MDA, Taco Bell, and others - to ensure Sanitation compliance to audit programs.
- Large-Scale Food Manufacturing Experience -Experience managing sanitation operations in a large food processing facility is required.
- Lead, manage, and develop the facility's sanitation and pest control programs, systems, procedures, and databases.
- Increase measurement and improvement of sanitation performance (e.g. KPIs and sanitation performance standards).
- Guide the sanitation department on maintaining the facility's chemical concentrations; check sanitizer ppm.
- Observe and report unsanitary practices and conditions along with recommendations for corrective actions.
- Coordinate preparation of plant for 3rd party audits and support internal audits and walkthroughs.
- Utilize technical skills and experience to troubleshoot sanitation and pest control issues.
- Coordinate and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) for operations.
- Maintain all records, files, and documentation that pertain to sanitation.
- Manage the Sanitation Program ensuring all SSOPs are followed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Actively participate in Food Safety and Food Defense related activities.
- Support and enforce all company policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as directed
Basic Qualifications
- Must have 5+ years of sanitation experience in the food industry; experience in utilizing a team-based approach to decision making.
- Must be able to lead and manage sanitation program development, implementation, and change management initiatives.
- Must be able to teach the safe operation of various tools and equipment, including compressed air, scrapers, and knives.
- Must have general knowledge and understanding of cleaning practices for equipment used in bakeries.
- Must be able to guide the work of others in the use of a variety of cleaning and sanitation chemicals.
- Must be proficient in sanitation and quality procedures, GMPs, OSHA, and food safety requirements.
- Must have prior experience as a Sanitation Manager in a manufacturing environment.
- Must wear PPE including safety glasses, gloves, boots, etc. when applicable.
- Must be familiar with breakdown and reassembly of production equipment.
- Must be able to instruct the team in safe chemical handling practices.
- Must have excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.
- Must be able and willing to complete tasks with detail and accuracy.
- Must be flexible to work weekends, in addition to 2nd and 3rd shifts.
- Must be able to take direction and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with other teammates.
- Must be able and willing to work in a safe manner.
Physical Requirements
- Must be comfortable working in a warm environment, with temperatures increasing during the summer months.
- Must be able to maintain the required production pace in all the facilities.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and bend throughout the assigned shift.
- Must be able to work in a loud and fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to push up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory or management experience providing work direction, performance feedback, and administering company policy.
- Post-high school training in a related field
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Ability to work alone or in teams.
- Bachelor of Science degree.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on individual.
- Self-motivated.
- Flexibility.
Position Backup
- In the event of an absence, responsibilities will be covered by the Director of Operations.
