Description Under the direction of a Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout assigned UCLA Health facilities. This position performs routine and specialized cleaning in patient care areas, nursing stations, exam and procedure rooms, offices, conference rooms, hallways, corridors, and public spaces. The Custodian operates a variety of cleaning and floor care equipment and follows established procedures for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining surfaces.

The role includes cleaning isolation rooms, performing high- and low-level dusting, maintaining floors through sweeping, stripping, and waxing, and properly handling and storing cleaning chemicals and supplies. The Custodian plays an important role in supporting a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff while adhering to UCLA Health's infection prevention, safety, and cleanliness standards.

May be converted to Career.

Salary Range: $26.69-34.50/hr

Qualifications
  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with patients, customers, coworkers, and other members of the healthcare team while providing excellent customer service.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of custodial and housekeeping equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, carpet extractors, auto scrubbers, and pressure or steam cleaning equipment.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks efficiently while meeting established deadlines.

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.

  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to follow through on assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively within defined timeframes and established procedures.

  • Strong listening, verbal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to exercise tact and professionalism when providing direction or working with coworkers.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist while standing.

  • Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to frequently stoop, squat, bend, and twist.

  • Ability to frequently move the neck forward and backward as required to perform job duties.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing custodial duties.

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position safely and effectively
