Position SummaryFaculty Position in Molecular Genetics & Microbiology
aligned with Autophagy, Inflammation and
Metabolism (AIM) Center
The Department of Molecular Genetics and
Microbiology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine (http://mgm.unm.edu/index.html) is seeking a flex-track Assistant Professor.
Areas of interest should be aligned with
AIM Center including autophagy, inflammation/immunity and metabolism.

The successful candidate will benefit
from the programmatic opportunities through the AIM Center and will have
exceptional opportunities for synergism and interactions with the UNM HSC
signature programs.
Appointment will be in the Department of
Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, at the rank of Assistant Professor. The
successful applicant will develop a rigorous research program on autophagy and
immunology, inflammation, or metabolism; participate in AIM COBRE and
departmental activities including graduate and medical school teaching.

Job
duties:

Work
toward becoming a member of the Phase S CoBRE Science Research Program
Investigator (SI) pool and work to become an appointed SI on Phase S Develop
a strong independent research program that is competitive for external
funding from the NIH and other sources. Teach
medical students as part of the Phase 1 curriculum. Contribute to departmental and institutional research training mission by teaching in
graduate school courses and mentoring graduate students and postdocs.
Participate
in AIM Center activities and initiatives. Provide service supporting the department's administrative, educational, and
scholarly missions.

Qualifications

Minimum
Qualifications:

- Ph.D., M.D.
or equivalent
- Eligible to
work in the United States

Preferred
Qualifications:

- New Investigator or Early Stage Investigator (ESI) or junior New Investigator (NI) as defined by NIH: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/glossary.htm#EarlyStageInvestigator(ESI); https://grants.nih.gov/grants/glossary.htm#NewInvestigator
- Strong record of scientific accomplishments aligned with the themes of the AIM Center https://www.autophagy.center/, (including autophagy, inflammation/immunity and metabolism)
- Strong evidence of potential for achieving R01-level funding in the areas described above.
- Outstanding publication and training record.
- Prior experience in teaching medical students (undergraduate medical education)

- A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
