MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual (Spanish), both oral and written proficiency required. Analytical skills in evaluating patients in order to plan and provide patient navigation. Ability to communicate effectively (public speaking skills) with diverse audiences including professional staff, patients, community, media, and other service agencies. Interpersonal skills to allay anxiety, elicit cooperation, and provide for education of patients/families, and to effectively function as a member of the healthcare team to coordinate and discuss patient needs. Strong organizational skills in order to maintain departmental files, records, and statistical data. Proficient typing skills in order to prepare a variety of materials. EXPERIENCE: Bilingual (Spanish), certified interpreter preferred. One to two years experience working with cancer patients and their families in an informal or formal setting. Personal, unique understanding of the cancer experience (former cancer patient). WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Normal patient care environment with exposure to infectious diseases. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.
