We are looking for an entry-level HR Generalist to provide cross-functional support across the human resources department, assisting with talent acquisition, onboarding, benefits administration, training and development, records retention and compliance auditing, and associate relations. This role exists to give day-to-day operational support to EWI's HR processes and HRIS (Paycom) activities, providing the VP of Human Resources to focus on strategic and complex matters while building a strong foundation of HR experience for the incumbent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding Support
- Perform daily review of applications for posted positions to narrow list down to potential candidates for managers to review for consideration
- Coordinate communication with applicants for scheduling phone screens and interviews; create interview agendas and manage calendar invites to schedule interviewers and rooms
- Support new-hire onboarding logistics to include creating orientation agendas, scheduling orientation meetings, and preparing for first-day experience of new-hire
HRIS Administration, Performance & Learning Management
- Maintain accurate employee data within Paycom
- Administer performance management process in Paycom
- Administer training in Learning Management System (LMS), including course assignment, tracking, and completion reporting
Associate Relations Support
- At all times maintain professional integrity and decorum in role of associate relations to build trust and rapport with staff
- Shadow VP of HR to develop skills on how to manage associate interactions and conduct investigations with integrity and diplomacy
- Provide front-line support for routine associate relations inquiries, escalating complex or sensitive issues to HR leadership; deliberate with VP of HR on more complex and sensitive matters to develop foundational skills and approach
Benefits Administration
- Assist associates with annual benefits enrollment, life-event changes, leave of absence programs, and routine questions
- Support benefit broker on administrative tasks and reporting for benefit plans and providers
- Communicate with benefits vendors/carriers on administrative matters as directed; develop relationships with customer support representatives assigned to our accounts
Wellness Program
- Lead the wellness committee to create and administer wellness programming for both locations
- Develop wellness strategies and plan each fiscal year to support continual education and resources for staff
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Genuine interest in building a career in Human Resources, with a desire to learn across multiple HR disciplines
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly for compliance-sensitive tasks such as I-9 and personnel file audits
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive employee information
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-service orientation toward associates and hiring managers
- Ability to learn and navigate HRIS platforms; familiarity with Paycom or a similar system is a plus but not required
- Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
- Sound judgment regarding when to handle a matter independently versus escalate to HR leadership
- Team-oriented attitude and willingness to support the HR department wherever needs arise
- High degree of detail-orientation with work
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Occasional travel to Buffalo for site support
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in human resource management, or a related field
EXPERIENCE:
- Entry-level position - no prior full-time professional HR experience
- HR-related internship, co-op, or student work experience is required
