Project Director - Greenfield Utility-Scale Solar EPC


Project Location: Union Springs, Alabama

Work Location: 100% onsite

Project Duration: 18-24 months

D&Z is seeking an experienced Project Director to serve as the senior onsite leader and single point of accountability for a greenfield utility-scale solar EPC project. This individual will lead the project from preconstruction and notice to proceed through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, commercial operation, and final closeout.


The Project Director will own the project's safety, financial, contractual, schedule, quality, and customer outcomes. The successful candidate will be a decisive, field-oriented leader who understands how engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, interconnection, and commissioning must work together to deliver a safe, profitable, and contract-compliant project.

What You Will Lead

  • Establish the project execution plan, organization, governance, decision rights, reporting cadence, and culture of accountability.
  • Provide executive leadership to project management, construction, safety, quality, project controls, engineering, procurement, environmental, and commissioning personnel.
  • Maintain full accountability for safety, quality, schedule, cost, cash flow, Estimate at Completion, contingency, productivity, risk, and contractual performance.
  • Direct engineering and constructability reviews, design coordination, RFIs, submittals, field changes, and resolution of technical issues.
  • Own the permitting and compliance matrix, including coordination with utilities, authorities having jurisdiction, environmental agencies, landowners, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead procurement, expediting, logistics, receiving, storage, and vendor performance for critical equipment such as modules, trackers, inverters, transformers, switchgear, substation equipment, protection and controls, and SCADA systems.
  • Administer the EPC contract and major subcontracts, including notices, change orders, claims, schedule impacts, liquidated-damages exposure, payment applications, and commercial negotiations.
  • Direct construction sequencing, labor and equipment planning, subcontractor performance, quality turnover, and schedule-recovery activities.
  • Lead energization, commissioning, testing, punch-list completion, owner training, turnover documentation, commercial operation, warranty transition, and final project closeout.
  • Serve as D&Z's senior representative with the customer and model D&Z's values of safety, integrity, diversity, and success, grounded in the promise: "We do what we say."



What You Need To Bring To The Table:

  • 12+ years of progressive EPC, power-generation, renewable-energy, or major infrastructure project-delivery experience.
  • At least five years leading multidisciplinary project teams in a senior project-management or project-executive capacity.
  • Demonstrated delivery of at least one 100-MW+ greenfield utility-scale solar project through commissioning and commercial operation.
  • Deep knowledge of solar civil, structural, DC, AC, medium-voltage, substation, interconnection, SCADA, protection-and-control, and commissioning interfaces.
  • Strong command of EPC contracts, project controls, Primavera P6 scheduling, cost forecasting, change management, claims, and risk mitigation.
  • Experience managing project permitting, environmental compliance, utility coordination, long-lead equipment, and major subcontractors.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
  • PMP, OSHA 30, NABCEP, union-construction, and self-perform experience are preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work 100% onsite and support extended hours during critical construction, energization, and commissioning milestones.



In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $220,000-$285,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of union fringes).
