Transportation Traffic Lead
Job Title: Transportation Traffic Lead Department: Transportation / Shipping and Receiving/ Warehouse Reports To: Supply Chain Supervisor/ Supply Chain Manager Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Transportation Traffic Lead is responsible for coordinating and overseeing daily transportation and traffic operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely movement of vehicles, drivers, equipment, and freight. This role serves as a key point of contact between drivers, dispatch, transportation management, customers, and other operational teams. The Traffic Lead monitors transportation activity, resolves operational issues, coordinates schedules and routes, and supports compliance with company policies and applicable transportation regulations. The position requires strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced operating environment. Key Responsibilities Coordinate daily transportation and traffic activities, including vehicle movements, dispatch schedules, routes, pickups, deliveries, and equipment availability. Monitor driver and vehicle activity to identify delays, operational issues, safety concerns, or schedule conflicts. Serve as a primary point of contact for drivers, dispatchers, customers, and internal operations teams. Adjust transportation schedules and routing as needed to minimize delays and improve operational efficiency. Track transportation performance, including on-time performance, route efficiency, utilization, and service issues. Coordinate responses to traffic disruptions, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, weather events, and other transportation-related emergencies. Ensure drivers and transportation activities comply with company policies, safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Review and maintain transportation documentation, including trip records, dispatch information, delivery documentation, and incident reports. Communicate changes to schedules, routes, customer requirements, and operational priorities to appropriate personnel. Assist with driver scheduling and coverage to maintain adequate transportation capacity. Identify recurring transportation problems and recommend process improvements. Work closely with maintenance and fleet personnel to address vehicle availability and repair-related issues. Monitor customer service concerns and coordinate timely resolution of transportation issues. Prepare operational reports and provide management with updates regarding traffic, service levels, delays, and other key performance indicators. Support transportation audits, safety initiatives, training, and continuous-improvement programs. May provide direction and day-to-day leadership to drivers, and loaders Leadership Responsibilities Provide daily operational guidance and support to transportation team members. Help establish priorities and allocate transportation resources based on business needs. Coach employees on safe, efficient, and professional transportation practices. Escalate performance, safety, attendance, or compliance concerns to management. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and customer service. Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent. 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, dispatch, fleet operations, traffic coordination, or a related field. Strong knowledge of transportation operations and scheduling. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or transportation, dispatch, fleet, or logistics software. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays when operationally required. Preferred: Associate's or bachelor's degree in transportation, logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related discipline. Previous lead, supervisory, or dispatch management experience. Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), GPS/telematics, routing software, or fleet-management systems. Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA requirements, where applicable. Experience managing transportation operations in a high-volume environment.
