Shift: Friday - Sunday 4:00am-4:30pm

In addition to the daily job function of a Press and Silk Screen Operator as described in those job descriptions, the Printing Department Sr. Lead will manage and coordinate activities of the silkscreen department and its employees by performing the duties listed below. The Printing Department Sr. Lead will also be responsible for department production control and decision making at a shift level, as a functioning operator.



Responsibilities

  • Prepares screens from positive image plates
  • Mounts and adjusts screens on the press, mixes fountain solution and ink, adjusts press speed and pressure, inks the printing press, loads plastic card sheets and adjusts the press to the sheet size
  • Ensures card sheets and ink meet customer job specifications
  • Continually monitors and corrects any quality problems that may occur during the press run to minimize downtime and waste
  • Conducts routine quality check for any printing imperfections during each run
  • Ensures completed product is staged in the area with appropriate job ticket information attached
  • Maintains an accurate record of all completed work using shop floor data system and/or manual forms as required
  • Completes required audit paperwork based on job stage
  • Complies with ISO 9001:2000 certification for all areas of responsibility
  • Ensures completed product is staged in the next work area with appropriate job ticket information attached
  • Keeps materials, supplies, product carts, and any other supplies need to be stocked in the department Print Manager of any inventory order needs
  • Maintains acceptable productivity, quality, service, spoilage, security and safety goals
  • Performs preventative maintenance, conducts minor repairs and reports any mechanical defects to Print Manager on equipment
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area
  • Follows all company procedures and rules
  • Follows all customer mandated security procedures and process requirements
  • Conducts self in a respectful and professional manner with a focus on teamwork, quality, and timeliness at all times
  • Correctly enter ink, press, operation, and other related Production Control information into the job.
  • Maintain a working schedule of the department's printing presses. The schedule may be dynamic and flexible to maximize efficiencies and to respond to customer needs.
  • Apprise the Procurement team of any consumable and material needs and maintain accurate inventories.
  • Apprise the Printing Manager of any issues on the shop floor regarding materials, processes, personnel, quality, and/or mechanical issues.
  • Provide accurate forecasts of job completion to Printing Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring final count validation, material, and production transactions prior to downstream internal processes.
  • Responsible for ensuring correct plates, positives, inks, and screens are prepared and available for the print runs. In some cases, this position may be trained output positives or plates in the absence of Prepress support.
  • Able to provide direction, clarity, and feedback to the other operators in the absence of the Printing Manager.
  • Able to interact with Customer Care, QA, and Post Printing in the absence of the Printing Manager.
  • Responsible for training entry-level and developmental level personnel in all technical areas.
  • Responsible for making Print Quality decisions, directing print operators on troubleshooting, and instructing operators on job schedule if Print Manager is not present

Ancillary Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all requirements of the CPI Safety Program.
  • Adhere to all CPI security requirements including counting and documenting the disposition of all cards to and from the operation.
  • Adhere to all requirements of the CPI Quality Management System.
  • Adhere to all requirements of the CPI Workmanship Manual.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required.


Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent with minimum 5 years of experience with offset or screen printing processes. Minimum of 1 year experience with digital printing equipment.
  • Solid detail and decision making skills in order to setup equipment, check product quality and make adjustments to meet customer deadlines and requirements.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude with ability to select and use appropriate equipment, supplies and tools.
  • Solid math skills to be able to compute percentages, weights and measures.
  • Ability to follow/interpret complex written and oral instructions and specifications
  • Must be security and safety oriented.
  • Must be reliable through good attendance, punctuality and cooperation.
  • Keen attention to detail including distinguishing color
  • Proficient communication skills including reading the writing and speaking English
  • Basic computer skills

Physical Demands:

  • Work is conducted in a standing position and requires walking, bending, stooping, pulling, climbing and lifting of materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Environment is noisy and may require ear protection.
  • Work involves good eyesight, hand/eye coordination and excellent color vision to be able to ensure quality product and maintain safety.
  • Work involves full use of hands/fingers in order to use precision or semi-precision equipment, tools or instruments requiring deft hand movements.
  • Work involves dealing with fine detail, which can be tiring both mentally and physically.
  • Works with rapidly moving machinery that may require quick adjustments to minimize waste.
  • Work is conducted in shifts and may require overtime on other shifts to meet deadlines.
