I. JOB OVERVIEW






Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University offers a comprehensive, NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 400 student-athletes across 20 varsity sports. The Department of Athletics seeks a Strength and Conditioning Coach to provide high-level coaching and administrative support to the Assistant Athletic Director, Strength and Conditioning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing, implementing, and evaluating sport-specific speed, strength, and conditioning programs for varsity athletic teams as assigned.
  • Assisting with the implementation of Sports Science Technology, i.e., Forcedecks, Nordbord & Kinexon GPS Systems. (In conjunction with the GW Exercise Science Department.)
  • Communicating with individual sport coaches and sports medicine staff regarding physical training issues and injury limitations of student-athletes. Anticipating potential risks of injury, taking measures to remove them, and, in the event of an injury, having the ability to implement emergency medical procedures.
  • Assisting with organizing, recruiting, and instructing strength and conditioning interns and/or graduate students to assist with the day-to-day operations of the strength and conditioning department.
  • Remaining knowledgeable and current on compliance-related items with all NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference (and other affiliated conferences), and University rules and regulations.


The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a health-related field is a plus.
  • Masters Degree Preferred
  • Experience in the private sector, college, or professional level is desired.
  • Currently CSCS certified with the National Strength & Conditioning Association and/or CSCCa certified is strongly preferred.
  • 1-2 years' coaching experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Word and Excel is desired.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fast-paced environment.

Hiring Range $47,073.26 - $64,771.35
