Department:

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

We seek candidates whose research focuses on coupled multiphysics behavior relevant to design and analysis of advanced aerospace systems. Areas of particular interest include extreme-environment structures, fluid-thermal-structural interactions, thermal-structural-material interactions, hypersonic systems, advanced propulsion systems, additive manufacturing for aerospace structures, large-scale multiphysics test environments, multiphysics diagnostics, and computational or experimental methods for characterizing and predicting structural response in severe operating conditions. Candidates whose research integrates applied artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and related data-driven approaches for extracting physical mechanisms, accelerating modeling and simulation, advancing diagnostics, or fusing multimodal and multifidelity experimental and computational data are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant is expected to establish a vibrant research program, including the ability to attract significant Federal funding and industrial partnerships that complement the existing capabilities of the Aerospace Research Center at Ohio State and expands MAE departmental strengths in aerospace structures.
