THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the Harrisburg Centralized Dispatch Center by receiving, coordinating, and relaying information that helps field personnel respond effectively. As a Dispatcher, you will perform the following duties:

  • Call Handling: Answer telephone lines, provide information, respond to questions, and direct calls to proper personnel
  • Message Relay: Hear, understand, and relay radio and telephone messages clearly and accurately
  • Dispatch Operations: Operate radio systems to exchange information with field staff and other agency personnel
  • CAD Processing: Use a computer aided dispatch system to receive, record, and assign emergency and non emergency calls
  • Data Entry: Input detailed information into CAD and related systems to document incidents and track personnel status
  • Unit Coordination: Maintain communication with multiple units and agencies while monitoring the status of staff and field activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • You will be scheduled four 10-hour days, with no lunch break
  • This is an essential position that requires you to report to the work site whenever an emergency occurs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of dispatch operations experience, two-way radio operation experience, or complex clerical experience; or
  • Possession of a valid Public Safety Telecommunicator certificate issued by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials may be substituted for six months of the required experience; or
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania hunting license may be substituted for three months of the required experience.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires a clear, firm voice and no major speech, hearing, or visual impairments that would interfere with understanding verbal communication, being understood, or using electronic communications equipment and visual display equipment.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • You must be able to obtain CLEAN and JNET certification within the probationary period and maintain these certifications for the duration of employment in this job.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
