Position Summary

The Junior Physical Security Engineer supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of physical security technology across DataBank's facilities and data centers. This entry -level position assists senior engineers in operating and troubleshooting access control, CCTV, and alarm systems, ensuring all components perform reliably and in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. The role is focused on hands-on learning, supporting installations, monitoring system health, assisting with incident response activities, and gaining familiarity with enterprise-grade physical security platforms. The Junior Physical Security Engineer contributes to a secure and compliant facility environment by following established procedures and collaborating closely with engineering, operations, and vendor teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, configuration, and preventive maintenance of physical security systems, including Lenel, CCure, Genetec, Exacq, BioConnect, and related technologies.
  • Support day-to-day system monitoring, alarm review, and response coordination.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting and escalate issues to senior team members or vendors as appropriate.
  • Assist with provisioning, modification, and auditing of access control credentials for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Support physical inspections and equipment verification across facilities.
  • Document maintenance activities, incidents, and access events in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Help maintain inventories of cameras, controllers, and related security hardware.
  • Participate in scheduled on-call rotation for alarms or system incidents under supervision.
  • Conduct incident response activities as directed by the incident response commander.
  • Collaborate with IT and Operations to validate connectivity and uptime of critical systems.
  • Use company ticketing and asset management tools to log, track, and close tasks.
  • Follow safety, security, and compliance procedures relevant to regulated environments such as FedRAMP, PCI DSS, ISO 27001, and NIST 800-53.
  • Participate in facility safety audits, emergency response drills, and ensure adherence to OSHA and NFPA standards.
  • Assist in generating and maintaining compliance documentation, including audit evidence for SOC, FedRAMP, and PCI reviews.
  • Partner with data center operations, project managers, and customers to coordinate security system maintenance and upgrades with minimal impact to facility uptime.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Basic understanding of physical security concepts (access control, perimeter security, surveillance and monitoring, intrusion detection, physical asset protection).
  • Familiarity with Windows OS, Office 365, basic IP networking concepts, and troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of how access control, video, and alarm platforms integrate with each other and with broader IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced technical environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Effective communication skills and professional interaction with employees, vendors, and visitors.
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and team-oriented

Experience and Qualifications

  • 1 - 2 years of experience in IT support, facility operations, or physical security required.
  • Familiarity with security systems or basic electronics is a plus.
  • Relevant coursework or training in security, IT, or electronics preferred but not required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must successfully pass a background/security investigation.
  • No firearms use is authorized or required.
