Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of recent Adult Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both scrub and circulating nurse roles.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience scrubbing and circulating the following specialties and procedures:
    • Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS)
    • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS)
    • Plastic Surgery
    • Dental Surgery
    • Combined Neurosurgery/OHNS procedures
    • Open and endoscopic surgical cases
    • Free flap reconstructive procedures
  • Demonstrated competence in managing complex surgical procedures in a fast-paced academic medical center environment.
  • Ability and willingness to complete orientation and provide coverage at all UCSF Health locations, as needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, multitask, and work independently.
  • Ability to perform efficiently under pressure while maintaining patient safety and quality standards.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and general PC operations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary surgical teams and maintain professional working relationships.

Preferred qualifications:

  • BSN degree
  • Specialty Certification - CNOR

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.

  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
