A Brief Overview

This position will manage operations for the medical student, undergraduate Education in the Department of Medicine to include: Medical Student clerkship coordination, Acting Internship coordination and Internal Medicine Interest groups, MSTP Clinical Director support, Medical student electives. Provides a high level of programmatic management, analysis and support of Medical Student Education through knowledge of medical student education and GME requirements. Effective communication skills and knowledge of hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates ability to make independent decisions to determine appropriate course of action within the context of polices and standards for students. Operates with independence . Prepare calendars to help coordinate students, residents and attending. Ability to analyze and compile data to demonstrate effort and achievements of physicians and students. Assist with assessment process particularly recruitment and evaluations. Ability to work with CASE School of Medicine Educators, registrar and share information on medical school platform for students to access. Work effectively with other citywide affiliated hospitals in IM education.

What You Will Do

  • Acting Internship coordination - rotations every month - 30%
    * Assign students to teamsoArrange and set up didactics schedules (room, zoom, coordinate with teaching staff, maintain updated goals and objectives on Case Canvas platform)oMaintain regular communication with students so they have appropriate calendars, updates for didactics, conferences and meetings. oServe as a liaison for AI DirectorsoCoordinate with hospital onboarding staff so students have appropriate access and credentials to do clinical workoWork with medical school personnel to optimize communication, outstanding student education, curricular changes and evolving education issues. oCreate system to keep track and updated with student and teacher evaluationsoCoordinate meetings with CWRU SOM co-clerkship directors, coordinators at CCF, Metro and VA and the CWRU SOM society deans to assure clerkship rotation consistency, address outlying student issues and assure outstanding training and outcomesoHelp with formatting, writing and uploading letters (>100 per season) from the Department of Medicine in support of students applying for residencyoCollect and report data regarding Department of Medicine efforts and outcomes with respect to student assessment, student achievement and teacher productivityoSupport educational scholarship initiatives by Clerkship and Acting Internship
  • Medical student Clerkship coordination - rotations every 12 weeks - 50%
    * oAssign students to teams for clerkship assignmentoRecruit and assign ambulatory doctors for clerkship assignmentoArrange and set up didactics schedules (room, zoom, coordinate with teaching staff, maintain updated goals and objectives on Case Canvas platform)oMaintain regular communication with students so they have appropriate calendars, updates, handouts and directions for didactics, conferences and meetings, resident teacher notifications. oServe as a liaison for Clerkship DirectorsoCoordinate with hospital onboarding staff so students have appropriate access and credentials to do clinical workoWork with medical school personnel to optimize communication, outstanding student education, curricular changes and evolving education issues. oCreate system to keep track and updated with student and teacher evaluationsoCoordinate meetings with CWRU SOM co-clerkship directors, coordinators at CCF, Metro and VA and the CWRU SOM society deans to assure clerkship rotation consistency, address outlying student issues and assure outstanding training and outcomes and outstanding training and outcomesoHelp with formatting, writing and uploading letters (>100 per season) from the Department of Medicine in support of students applying for residencyoCollect and report data regarding Department of Medicine efforts and outcomes with respect to student assessment, student achievement and teacher productivity. oInterprets and analyzes program requirements, institutional policies and procedures and data oMakes recommendations for programmatic changes based on survey questions, citations, and areas for improvement.oSupport educational scholarship initiatives by Clerkship and Acting Internship
  • Internal Medicine Interest Group - 5%
    * Help students to organize monthly events with regards to financing, food
    * Help arrange informational meetings regarding Internal Medicine Residency Recruitment
  • MSTP Clinical Director Support - 5%
    * Help with MD/PhD student onboarding for clinical tutorial placement during their PhD years
    * Help to coordinate the MSTP spring refresher curriculum for students returning from their PhD to MD final years
    * Help to coordinate an OSCE (objective structured clinical exam) with standardized patients, young physician faculty members as graders for the MSTP students prior to their return to MD final years.
  • Medical Student Electives in Department (other than the AI listed above) - 5%
    * Serve as the liaison for medical student elective coordinators in the different divisions of Medicine (pulmonary, hematology/oncology, cardiology, Nephrology, rheumatology, endocrinology, infectious disease, and gastroenterology).
  • Senior Teaching Attending Residents ( STARS) coordinator- participate weekly - 10%oHelp in recruitment and training efforts each springoCreate yearly calendar to make sure a resident is committed to the weekly sessionsoNotify and remind residents and students of the weekly sessions oAssign H&P's to be graded and help facilitate communication about the review with residents and students oAssign student abstracts to residents
  • Internal Medicine Interest Group - 5%oHelp students organize monthly events with regards to financing, food oHelp arrange additional informational meetings regarding Internal Medicine Residency recruitment

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work together with Department of Medicine leadership administration to facilitate medical trainee recruitment and education
  • Comply with UH policies and standards
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation
  • Abide by requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients and maintain Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for our students. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
