Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

Engineering is responsible for building and maintaining the majority of Metra's fixed assets, such as buildings, stations, bridges, track, electrical, telecommunications and signal systems. The Engineering Department also monitors the condition of and assists in building and maintaining the fixed assets on the freight lines where Metra trains operate. The Engineering Department is divided into two major groups: Capital Projects, and Communications and Maintenance.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Union Positions Administration, the Chief Engineering Clerk provides administrative and clerical support to ensure smooth and efficient operation for the following administrative areas for the Engineering Department:

The primary duties include: Coordinate intra-department activities related to employee investigations and disciplinary actions. Prepare and distribute required correspondence and documentation.Track case status, follow up on outstanding items, and maintain accurate records.Schedule and coordinate court reporters and related hearing logistics.Update and maintain specific personnel filesin accordance with departmental procedures.Assist with monitoring contract employee qualification records.Assist with maintaining up-to-date logs and notifying leadership of upcoming expirations or missing certifications.Assists with managing the bulletin and job award process.Assist with maintaining, updating, and distributing Engineering Department seniority rosters.Provide clerical and administrative assistance as required to support ongoing departmental operations.Assist with documentation, data entry, scheduling, file management, and communication tasks and other related duties as assigned.Coordinates work among other Engineering clerks as needed.Fillin for other Engineering clerks as needed

Requirements
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience in an office environment.
  3. Ability to type at least 50 words per minute.
  4. Working knowledge of standard office procedures and practices.
  5. Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with staff at all levels.
  6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  7. Strong verbal and written communications abilities.
  8. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  9. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  10. Sound judgement and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  11. Ability to work effectively in a face-paced, high-pressure, time sensitive environment

Work hours:

Days of Assignment: MON thru FRI

Rest Days: SAT and SUN

Hours of Assignment: 7:00am to 3:30pm

Meal Period: Noon to 12:30pm
