What you can expect in this role

As a Spectrum intern, you'll spend the summer working alongside two teams:your respective department and your interncohort.

Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You'll spend the other 20% oninternshipexperiences that include a kickoff conference,professional development sessions and networking activities, webinars, community service, cross-functionalprojects,and final presentations.

This experience is designed to help you explore your interests, expand yournetwork,and leave with a deeper understanding of both your field and the impact of our business.

Internship responsibilities may include:

The Financial Reporting Intern will work across the Financial Reporting Department, inclusive of the following teams:

  • Business Process and Controls Team - Subject matter experts on internal controls for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) financial reporting purposes
  • External Reporting - Review and perform tie-out procedures of Charter filings (i.e., 10-Q, 10-K)
  • Consolidations - Consolidate Charter financial data every month
  • Non-Cable Operations & Corporate Accounting - Record journal entries and perform reconciliations for various business units within Charter
  • Technical Accounting Team - contract and lease reviews, investment accounting, and reviews of various business arrangements to determine appropriate accounting, including presentation of conclusions to key company personnel The Technical Accounting team and the groups above comprise the overall Financial Reporting Department.
  • Each group collaborates with various stakeholders throughout the Company to ensure accuracy of relevant financial data.

Technical Accounting:

  • Preparing lease review files, assisting with contract analyses, completing quarterly completeness checks, and preparing key quarterly accounting memos.
  • These responsibilities may also include support for investment procedures and other quarter-close or ad hoc technical accounting projects as needed.
  • External Reporting & Consolidations: Assist with external reporting and consolidation activities, including 10-Q and supporting schedule tie-outs, as well as quarterly close procedures related to pension, equity, debt, 401(k), RAP financials, 5500s, and 10-Q reporting support. Business Process & Controls (BPC):
  • Gain exposure to SOX internal controls and walkthrough processes by attending walkthrough meetings, reviewing and documenting walkthrough support, and creating or updating process flowcharts to support internal control documentation.

Required qualifications

  • Must be a rising junior or rising senior with an expected graduation date between of May 2028 to May 2029
  • Must be currentlyenrolledin an accredited College or University completing abachelor'sdegree
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
  • Ability to travel locally to Spectrum intern development events and activities throughout the program
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Planning to pursue a CPA license
  • Strong analytical problem solving and critical thinking skills is important in our line of work, as most tasks are not repetitive type tasks
  • Willingness to learn, collaborate and be flexible
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Works well in a team environment
