HJF is seeking a TBI SME (MID-LEVEL PROVIDER - CPCR) to serve as the SME for mild, moderate, severe and penetrating TBI to support the Clinical Affairs team. S/he is expected to perform with minimal direction and oversight on issues in her/his areas of expertise and responsibility as part of a high-tempo office environment that is responsive to needs of DHA and DOD leadership, TBI clinicians/providers, brain health educators, and cognitive monitoring programmatic issues.

This position will be in support of the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) in Silver Spring, MD. TBICoE is a branch of the Research Support Division in the Research and Engineering Directorate (R&E) of the Defense Health Agency (DHA). DHA is a Federal Program within the Department of Defense (DoD). TBICoE, known previously as the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC), has been congressionally mandated since 1992 and is currently a matrixed research, dissemination, and knowledge translation program, supporting warfighter brain health and readiness by advancing the traumatic brain injury state of the science and clinical standards.

TBICoE's mission to support the warfighter is executed through subject matter experts embedded across DHA facilities with expertise in TBI clinical research investigations, surveillance, clinical tool development and training, cognitive monitoring and assessment, and dissemination of TBI tools, products, and education/training materials to DoD medical personnel, service members, including Guard, Reserve, and operational medics/corpsmen, veterans with TBI, and families/caregivers of the warfighter.

• Serves as a TBICoE SME for mild, moderate, severe and penetrating TBI including knowledge from prevention to rehabilitation and stays actively informed on emerging areas of brain health to include blast overpressure, high and low-level blast, cognitive monitoring and performance.
• Review specialty SME quarterly reports and provide updates to leadership on emerging areas of clinical practice.
• Provides expertise and analysis to TBICoE senior leadership on issues of TBI research, clinical care and standards of care for patients along the full continuum of TBI severity.
• Collaborates with and receives direction from TBICoE leadership, DoD health care policy offices and other subject matter experts to assist in enhancing metrics for evaluation of TBI services and programs. May provide input for development of training platforms/tools. When appropriate, provides direct training.
• Provide consultation to leadership in TBICoE, DoD and clinical programs regarding the evidence on TBI evaluation, treatment and management, identification of gaps in evidence, the current and future needs in the military and future research requirements.
• Supports TBICoE researchers in their TBI research as an SME.
• May directly collaborate in TBICoE/DoD research projects.
• Attends and participates in scholarly, academic and scientific meetings related to TBI.

Education and Experience

• Nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant degree with license required.
• 5-10 years of experience in healthcare and healthcare research required.
• Experience with TBI, prior experience with DoD/VA systems strongly preferred.
• Required Licenses: NP or PA with state license, Board certification preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• SMEs are professional personnel who have published in peer reviewed publications, conducted presentations at professional meetings, and are considered experts in their given field.
• Excellent oral and written communications required.
• Must have strong collaborative and organizational skills.
• Must adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.
• Experience in Fundamental, Basic, Applied, or Mixed Research preferred.
• Knowledge of TBI and statistics required.
• Knowledge of DoD and VA health care systems strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing clinical responsibilities related to research protocols.
• May require US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.

Physical Capabilities

• Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Licenses and Certifications

• NP or PA with state license, Board certification preferred

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

• The annual salary range for this position is $100,500-$126,300. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
