The LCMS group within R&D Discovery and Technology Futures is looking for a creative and energetic Associate Scientist to support proteomic sample preparation for biomarker discovery and new product development.

Why this role matters:

You will join a collaborative team of scientists and gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge quantitative proteomics workflows. We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented wet-bench scientist who is curious and a team player. No mass spectrometry experience is required - we will train you on everything downstream of the bench.

In this role:

  • You will perform hands-on sample preparation of biofluids (e.g., serum, plasma, urine) following established protocols to support biomarker validation studies.
  • You will execute automated, bead-based sample preparation workflows on liquid handling systems for quantification of proteins of interest.
  • You will prepare reagents and materials, perform experiments, and keep meticulous records of laboratory work in electronic lab notebooks.
  • You will analyze data and prepare reports and summaries with guidance from senior scientists.
  • You will be an integral part of a dynamic team that develops novel and robust quantitative proteomics assays.
  • You will grow your skills - you will learn quantitative proteomics and LCMS from a team of experienced scientists.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • BS in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field with 1-2 years of hands-on laboratory experience in industry or an academic lab

  • Strong wet-bench fundamentals: accurate pipetting, careful sample handling, reagent and buffer preparation, and rigorous documentation

  • Experience with common biochemistry or molecular biology techniques (e.g., protein assays, ELISA, electrophoresis, sample extraction); experience handling biofluids or working with liquid handling automation is a plus

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities

  • Ability to follow established protocols precisely and flag anomalies early

  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn new techniques, including mass spectrometry-based proteomics (no prior LCMS or mass spectrometry experience needed)

What you can expect from us:

  • Base annual salary target: $62K - $70K DOE
  • Opportunity for annual cash bonus
  • Health / Dental / Vision Benefits Day-One
  • 5% matching 401k
  • Additional benefits including but not limited to financial support, pet insurance, mental health resources, volunteer paid days off, employee stock program, foundation donation matching, and much more!
  • A dynamic and exciting career that utilizes your leadership experience, technical skills, allows you to travel, meet new people, expand your knowledge and skill set, all while positively impacting the lives of pets and their owners
