Who We Are Located in the scenic Puget Sound area with nearby mountain ranges and Mount Rainier in the distance, Tacoma is surrounded by outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking, boating and camping. Tacoma Community College (TCC) was built on the ancestral territory of Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Puyallup and Squaxin Island Tribes. The 1854 Medicine Creek Treaty forcibly removed them to Reservations to make way for colonizers; we recognize the privilege of utilizing this land has come at a great cost. We honor the resilience of the Puyallup and Squaxin Island people, who still live here, defend their rights, and contribute greatly to the well-being of our community. Our institution aims to increase partnerships and community ties with the local indigenous populations. In addition, we strongly support the Stop Asian Hate movement and have an active Asian Pacific Islander Student Club as well as an Asian and Pacific Islander Faculty and Staff Coalition. Under direct supervision, this position performs routine manual labor work. This position will primarily focus on maintaining the athletic fields, with other duties as assigned. Essential Functions Preparation for painting (i.e. scraping, pressure washing, etc.) Re-painting safety stripes on exterior stairs Moving furniture and equipment. General clean up. Assisting other Building Maintenance and Grounds staff as directed, primarily mowing the athletic fields. May operate a pickup truck or other small vehicle to deliver materials and remove materials. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High School graduation or equivalent. Experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, repair work or related experience. Conditions of Employment Must have a current valid, unrestricted driver's license. Ability to follow oral instructions. Ability to get along well with others. Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or using adaptive equipment or methods to accomplish these tasks. Ability to use power equipment as instructed. Ability to understand, speak, write and read the English language, for receiving and reading instructions for cleaning and chemical handling, and radio and emergency communications. The Successful Candidate Must Demonstrate Skill in building and maintaining internal and external customer satisfaction; Excellent customer service skills; including establishing, building and maintaining internal/external customer satisfaction. Identify and understand issues, challenges, and learning opportunities; be proactive and strategic with solutions; Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment; Communicate promptly and responsively to the needs of the department and college community; including communicating with supervisor, end customer and customer's manager about work order status. Maintain established standards of work, customer response and professional conduct in performance of the position duties; Knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair. An understanding and willingness to follow applicable laws, regulations and other standards to establish and/or maintain a safe work environment. Ability to analyze and resolve problems. Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing business needs, conditions, and work responsibilities. Terms of Employment This is a non-permanent hourly position scheduled to work varied hours up to 17 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the needs of the department. The pay rate is $20.00 to $20.00 per hour DOE/DOQ.
