Description
Position Summary The Shop Fab 2 is an experienced fabricator who can perform routine pipe fabrication and fitting activities with limited supervision. This position is expected to understand fabrication drawings, accurately lay out and assemble piping components, and produce quality work while maintaining productivity and safety standards. Primary Responsibilities
- Read and interpret isometric drawings, spool sheets, blueprints, and weld symbols.
- Accurately measure, lay out, cut, bevel, and prepare pipe.
- Fit pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, and related components.
- Perform tack welding and prepare assemblies for welding.
- Operate pipe rotators, saws, grinders, and other fabrication equipment.
- Verify dimensions, alignment, orientation, and fit-up.
- Identify fabrication issues before assemblies move to the next stage.
- Work independently on routine fabrication assignments.
- Assist Fab 1 employees with fabrication techniques and procedures.
- Maintain production schedules and quality expectations.
- Follow project specifications and fabrication procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Communicate material, drawing, or fabrication issues to the Foreman or Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of pipe fabrication, mechanical fabrication, or related experience preferred.
- Ability to read and understand piping isometrics.
- Strong measurement and layout skills.
- Experience fitting pipe and components.
- Experience with carbon steel and/or stainless steel.
- Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment.
- Basic understanding of welding and weld preparation.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
Advancement Expectations To advance to Shop Fab 3, an employee should demonstrate proficiency in:
- Complex pipe layout and fabrication.
- Reading and interpreting detailed isometrics and fabrication drawings.
- Independent fit-up of complex assemblies.
- Troubleshooting fabrication issues.
- Consistently meeting production and quality expectations.
- Proper use of rotators and specialized shop equipment.
- Assisting and developing less-experienced fabricators.
- Taking ownership of assigned fabrication work.
